Inleiding
Het diepe, direct aan de Langestraat gelegen WINKELPAND stamt naar alle waarschijnlijkheid uit de periode 1825-1875, maar werd in 1895 in opdracht van manufacturenhandelaar M.H. van Raalte naar ontwerp van gemeente-architect W.H. Kam verbouwd. Daarbij werden de winkelpui, de voorgevel en delen van het interieur gewijzigd en werd een tuinkamer aan het gebouw toegevoegd. In 1910 werd door dezelfde architect Kam een derde `uitstallingskast' aan de winkelpui toegevoegd, waar zich voorheen de toegang tot een zijgang bevond. De voorgevel is in hoofdzaak in deze toestand bewaard gebleven, waarbij zich oorspronkelijk boven de pilasters en dubbele consoles acroteria bevonden. De eclectische bouwstijl is neorenaissance, waarbij de detaillering, zoals de door vierkante Corinthische zuilen gedragen kroonlijst, invloeden van het neoclassicisme toont. Het interieur is ingrijpend gewijzigd. Het pand is het enige redelijk gaaf bewaard gebleven winkelontwerp van W.H. Kam en maakt deel uit van een ensemble, bestaande uit eind 19de-eeuwse panden.
Omschrijving
Het hoogopgaande en ongeveer 30 meter diepe winkelpand bestaat uit een onderkelderd hoofdgebouw met drie bouwlagen en een afgewolfd zadeldak, een middendeel van twee bouwlagen en een zadeldak en een achtergebouw, bestaande uit één bouwlaag met zadeldak. De daken zijn bedekt met Hollandse pannen.
De voorgevel (zuidzijde) is vrijwel symmetrisch, de later toegevoegde 'derde uitstallingskast' rechts naast de gevel uitgezonderd. De winkelpui is onder te verdelen in vier traveeën. De oorspronkelijke plint onder de vensters is in 1992 verwijderd, waardoor de vensters vrijwel tot aan het straatniveau reiken. Deuren en kozijnen zijn nieuw. Vensters en deuren zijn gevat in een authentieke houten omlijsting bestaande uit vier Corinthische pilasters met gefacetteerde panelen en een daarop aangebrachte rozet, geplaatst op een natuurstenen voet, die een geprofileerde kroonlijst dragen. In de zwikken van de rondboogvormig afgesloten vensters is een rozet opgenomen. De tweede en derde bouwlaag bevatten resp. een T-vormige schuifvensters met natuurstenen onderdorpel en strekse boog met bepleisterde aanzet- en sluitstenen. Op de derde bouwlaag zijn tweelichts schuifvensters met tweelichts bovenlicht aangebracht. Onderdorpels en strekse boog hebben dezelfde vorm als in de tweede bouwlaag.
Waardering
Het winkelpand van algemeen belang vanwege zijn architectuurhistorische waarde als gaaf en typerend voorbeeld van een in eclectische bouwstijl ontworpen winkelpand. Het pand bezit ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van een negentiende-eeuwse straatgevel. Het winkelontwerp is een onderdeel in het oeuvre van W.H. Kam.

Introduction
The deep shop premises directly situated on the Langestraat dates from the period 1825-1875 in all probability, but was rebuilt in 1895 at the request of manufacturing trader M.H. van Raalte according to a design by municipal architect W.H. Kam. In the course of this work the shop front, the front facade and parts of the interior were altered and a garden room was added to the building. In 1910 the same architect Kam added a third 'display case' to the shop front, where previously there was access to a side passage. The front facade has been preserved essentially in this condition, with acroteria originally positioned above the pilasters and double consoles. The eclectic architectural style is neo-Renaissance, with detailing such as the cornice carried by square Corinthian columns showing influences of neoclassicism. The interior has been substantially altered. The premises are the only reasonably well-preserved shop design by W.H. Kam and form part of an ensemble consisting of late 19th-century buildings.
Description
The tall and approximately 30 metres deep shop premises consist of a basement-level main building with three storeys and a hipped roof, a middle section of two storeys and a gabled roof and a rear building consisting of one storey with gabled roof. The roofs are covered with Dutch tiles.
The front facade (south side) is virtually symmetrical, excepting the later-added 'third display case' to the right of the facade. The shop front can be divided into four bays. The original plinth beneath the windows was removed in 1992, allowing the windows to extend almost to street level. Doors and frames are new. Windows and doors are set in an authentic wooden surround consisting of four Corinthian pilasters with faceted panels and a rosette applied thereto, placed on a natural stone base, which carries a moulded cornice. In the spandrels of the semicircular-ended windows a rosette is incorporated. The second and third storeys contain respectively a T-shaped sash windows with natural stone undersill and segmental arch with plastered respond and closing stones. On the third storey two-light sash windows with two-light fanlight have been installed. Undersills and segmental arch have the same form as in the second storey.
Valuation
The shop premises are of general importance by virtue of their architectural-historical value as an intact and typical example of a shop premises designed in eclectic architectural style. The premises possess ensemble value as part of a nineteenth-century street facade. The shop design is a component in the oeuvre of W.H. Kam.
