The register's description

Inleiding

Introduction

COUNTRY HOUSE designed in 1926 by Herman van der Kloot Meijburg in a design based on traditional building methods as a practice residence for physician E.A.L.M. Verbeek. The house was built by O. Vermeij. In 1930 the building was extended on the east side. The entrance to the residence is on the east side, the entrance to the practice on the north side. The country house, erected in a businesslike-traditional building style, is integrated into the rural environment by its thatched roof.

Description

The country house is laid out on a complex ground plan and consists of an L-shaped main volume with a barn/garage connected by an intermediate link beneath thatch-covered gabled roofs between end facades executed as pointed gables, built in yellow brick (Norwegian bond). Against the east facade a perpendicular extension has been set with a lower ridge and a half-hipped roof in the end facade. On the west side a building volume with garage has been constructed beneath a thatch-covered gabled roof with the ridge parallel to the road. The glazing-bar windows are generally of steel. All windows are furthermore provided with one-and-a-half-brick stretcher courses and sills of black glazed tiles.

The north facade contains four windows placed side by side in the first storey. The window row continues with one window into both side facades. In the second storey a four-pane window appears. The gable contains a six-pane window.

Against the east facade on the left an extension executed in 1930 is placed. The end facade contains a three-pane window in the two storeys. To the right of this is the built-out entrance section beneath a canopy, with mortared planter boxes. On the right windows with glass-in-lead in geometric style have been inserted. Above the entrance a terra-cotta facing tile with the name 'Huize Taxandria' has been placed. Above the entrance the roof hip has been raised and the brickwork slightly raised higher. At this point five coupled wooden windows with cross glazing bars have been inserted. The whole continues into the extension on the left and contains four coupled windows at this location.

The south facade is identical to the north facade.

The west facade against which on the left the intermediate link and garage are situated, has a small window and a kitchen window. In the centre the facade is built higher and contains four windows. This garage has a hipped gable roof cladding and contains two hinged doors, a window and a door. The interior of the residence is partly original. In the design there is a distinction between the residence and the practice. The original waiting room with former toilet is located in the extension next to the garage.

Valuation

The building is of general importance because of its architectural-historical value as a well-preserved example of a thatch-covered practice residence built in a traditional building style with distinctive use of materials, steel frames and glass-in-lead components, designed by Herman van der Kloot Meijburg.
