Inleiding
HERENHUIS, gebouwd als pastorie van de Nederlands Hervormde gemeente. Het pand, deel uitmakend van een gesloten gevelrij. is omstreeks 1880 gebouwd op de plaats van een ouder huis genaamd `De grie gevels'. Het pand ligt binnen het beschermde gezicht van Oudewater in de bocht waar Donkere Gaard overgaat in Kromme Haven aan de zuidwestzijde van de vaart.
Omschrijving
Het herenhuis is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen onder een met rode pannen gedekt samengesteld schilddak met de nok evenwijdig aan de weg. Het pand heeft een bepleisterde plint en getoogde vensters met een bewerkte sluitsteen in de ontlastingsboog. De voor- en rechterzijgevel worden afgesloten door een gekorniste kroonlijst. Alleen in de voorgevel komen consoles met bladmotieven voor. De hoeken van het pand bestaan uit gemetselde pilasters. Bij de voorgevel zijn deze blokvormig.
De voorgevel is symmetrisch van indeling en telt vijf venster-assen. In het midden heeft de gevel een risaliet met op de begane grond de entree. De vensters hebben geprofileerde onderdorpels met een stucwerkdecoratie. In het dakvlak zijn twee dakkapellen aangebracht met een houten pilasteromlijsting en een tympaanvormige bekroning met tuit.
Tegen de rechterzijgevel is gedeeltelijk een lagere moderne aanbouw geplaatst die rechts in de gevel een venster vrijlaat onder twee vensters op de verdieping.
Het schilddak is aan de achterzijde verlengd en is tot de eerste verdiepingsvloer getrokken. Het linker zijschild is afgewolfd. In het midden van deze gevel is een deur gezet met getoogd bovenlicht. Het brede balkon voor de dakopbouw is als uitbouw later toegevoegd. De linkergevel is voor de helft bepleisterd en bevat een tweetal vensters.
De indeling van het interieur bestaat uit een doorlopende gang in het midden. Ter weerszijden zijn vertrekken gelegen. Het vertrek links voor bevat een stucplafond. Rechts van de gang is een gemetseld stenen keldergewelf waarboven een opkamer is gelegen.
Waardering

MANSION, built as a parsonage for the Dutch Reformed congregation. The building, forming part of a closed row of facades, was built around 1880 on the site of an older house called 'De grie gevels'. The building is located within the protected townscape of Oudewater in the bend where Donkere Gaard merges into Kromme Haven on the south-west side of the waterway.
Description
The mansion is constructed on a rectangular ground plan and comprises two storeys beneath a compound hipped roof, tiled with red tiles, with the ridge parallel to the road. The building has a plastered plinth and arched windows with a worked voussoir in the relieving arch. The front and right-side facades are finished with a corniced cornice. Consoles with leaf motifs appear only in the front facade. The corners of the building consist of mortared pilasters. On the front facade these are blocky.
The front facade has a symmetrical layout and comprises five window axes. In the centre, the facade has a risalit with the entrance on the ground floor. The windows have profiled sills with stucco decoration. In the roof slope two roof dormers have been inserted with a wooden pilaster frame and a tympanum-shaped crown with spout.
Against the right-side facade a partly lower modern extension has been placed which leaves a window free on the right in the facade beneath two windows on the upper storey.
The hipped roof has been extended to the rear and is drawn down to the first floor level. The left-side hip is half-hipped. In the centre of this facade a door has been set with an arched fanlight. The broad balcony in front of the roof structure was added later as an outbuilding. The left-side facade is plastered for half its height and contains a pair of windows.
The interior layout consists of a continuous corridor in the centre. On either side are rooms. The front room on the left contains a stucco ceiling. To the right of the corridor is a mortared stone cellar vault above which a dressing room is situated.
Valuation
The building is of architectural-historical value as an example of a late nineteenth-century mansion. It is of cultural-historical value as a former parsonage. Moreover, the building is of situational value because of its location on Donkere Gaard. It is of urban-planning importance because of its striking location at the bend in the road and the waterway running parallel to it.
