Inleiding
Voormalig MEEL- EN KAASPAKHUIS uit 1890 genaamd "De Landbouw" (nr.2) en "De Nijverheid" (nr.3). Het dubbele pakhuis is gelegen aan de westzijde van de Nieuwendam, direct aan de straat. Begin jaren '70 van de twintigste eeuw is het meelpakhuis (nr.2) inwendig verbouwd tot café met bovenwoning en het kaaspakhuis (nr.3) tot woonhuis.
Omschrijving
Op nagenoeg vierkant grondplan gebouwd dubbel meel- en kaaspakhuis, waarvan het linker pand (nr.2) breder is dan het rechter (nr.3). Het gebouw telt vier bouwlagen onder twee evenwijdige mansardekappen met de noklijnen haaks op de straat en een dekking van rode en deels zwarte Hollandse dakpannen. Het pand is opgetrokken in rode machinale baksteen waalformaat in kruisverband met snijvoeg. De voorgevel (O) wordt afgesloten met twee geknikte tuitgevels met gebosseerde aanzetstenen van hardsteen en hardsteen ter plaatse van de knik. Ook de dekstenen van de tuiten zijn van hardsteen. Ter hoogte van de zoldervloer en de gordingen bevinden zich muurankers in de gevels. Alle bouwlagen worden van elkaar gescheiden door een gemetselde cordonlijst bestaande uit een strekken- en een koppenlaag. Zowel het rechter als het linker pakhuis telt drie vensterassen, waarbij de muurdammen tussen de vensters van het linker pakhuis breder zijn. Elke bouwlaag is voorzien van vensters bestaande uit twee gekoppelde zesruits openslaande ramen. De ramen van de tweede, derde en zolderverdieping hebben bovendien tweeruits bovenlichten (valramen). Op de zolderverdieping zijn de buitenste vensters niet gekoppeld maar enkel. De vlieringen worden verlicht door een rondvenster bovenin beide tuitgevels. Op de begane grond bevindt zich in het midden van beide pakhuizen geen venster maar een dubbele deur. Van de bovenliggende deuren op de eerste verdieping zijn de deurkozijnen nog aanwezig. Boven de tweede verdieping zijn beide panden voorzien van een witgeverfd houten naambord met daarop in zwarte letters de naam van het betreffende pakhuis.
De rechterzijgevel (N) is voorzien van schootankers en wordt afgesloten door een bakgoot op klossen. De linkerzijgevel (Z) wordt door het hoge buurpand aan het oog onttrokken. De achtergevel (W) is op de vensters na identiek aan de voorgevel. De vensters in de achtergevel zijn voorzien van twee achtruits openslaande ramen met tweeruits bovenlicht. Het rechter (N) pand telt vier vensterassen, het linker vijf. Rondvensters als in de voorgevel ontbreken.
Waardering
Het meel- en kaaspakhuis is van algemeen belang wegens cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als grotendeels gaaf bewaard gebleven dubbel pakhuis uit het het laatste kwart van de 19de eeuw. Tevens heeft het gebouw ensemblewaarde in relatie tot de diverse 19de- en 20ste-eeuwse (kaas)pakhuizen in de omgeving van de Nieuwendam in het centrum van Hoorn.

Former FLOUR AND CHEESE WAREHOUSE from 1890 named "De Landbouw" (no.2) and "De Nijverheid" (no.3). The double warehouse is located on the west side of the Nieuwendam, directly on the street. In the early 1970s the flour warehouse (no.2) was internally converted into a café with an upper dwelling and the cheese warehouse (no.3) into a residential building.
Description
Double flour and cheese warehouse built on a nearly square floor plan, of which the left building (no.2) is wider than the right (no.3). The building comprises four storeys under two parallel mansard roofs with the ridge lines perpendicular to the street and a covering of red and partly black Dutch roof tiles. The building is constructed in red machine-made brickwork in Waal format in English bond with struck joints. The front facade (E) is terminated with two angled spout gables with rusticated freestone springer stones and freestone at the position of the angle. The coping stones of the spouts are also of freestone. At the height of the attic floor and the purlins are wall anchors in the facades. All storeys are separated from each other by a built cornice consisting of a stretcher course and a header course. Both the right and left warehouse each count three window axes, whereby the wall piers between the windows of the left warehouse are wider. Each storey is provided with windows consisting of two coupled six-pane casements. The windows of the second, third and attic storeys also have two-pane fanlights (drop lights). On the attic storey the outer windows are not coupled but single. The attics are lit by a round window at the top of both spout gables. On the ground floor there is no window in the centre of both warehouses but a double door. The door frames of the doors above on the first storey are still present. Above the second storey both buildings are provided with a white-painted wooden nameplate with the name of the respective warehouse in black letters.
The right side facade (N) is provided with wall anchors and is terminated by a gutter on corbels. The left side facade (S) is hidden from view by the high neighbouring building. The rear facade (W) is identical to the front facade except for the windows. The windows in the rear facade are provided with two four-pane casements with two-pane fanlight. The right (N) building comprises four window axes, the left five. Round windows as in the front facade are absent.
Valuation
The flour and cheese warehouse is of general importance due to its cultural and architectural-historical value as a largely intact surviving double warehouse from the last quarter of the 19th century. Furthermore, the building has ensemble value in relation to the various 19th and 20th-century (cheese) warehouses in the vicinity of the Nieuwendam in the centre of Hoorn.
