Inleiding
Aan de zuidoostzijde van het Grote Oost gelegen BRANDSPUITHUISJE uit 1860 met opschrift "SPUIT B". Dit door stadsarchitect B. Blanken ontworpen gebouwtje is het laatste van de in totaal vijf Hoornse spuithuisjes. Het interieur is verbouwd tot toiletruimte voor de naastgelegen Oosterkerk.
Omschrijving
Op vierkant grondplan opgetrokken brandspuithuisje van één bouwlaag onder een tentdak gedekt met rode Hollandse pannen en bekroond door een zinken piron. De symmetrische voorgevel (NW) heeft een hardstenen plint en is daarboven gepleisterd en voorzien van schijnvoegen (imitatie natuursteenblokken). In het midden van de gevel bevindt zich een brede opgeklampte deur. De voorgevel wordt afgesloten door een hoofdgestel die ter plaatse van de twee sobere hoekpilasters gekornist is. Midden op het fries is "Spuit B" geschilderd. De achter- en zijgevels worden door omringende bebouwing aan het oog onttrokken.
Waardering
Het brandspuithuisje is van algemeen belang wegens cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde en zeldzaamheidswaarde als goed voorbeeld van een brandspuithuisje uit de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw, uitgevoerd in een eenvoudige Neo-Classicistische stijl. Tevens heeft het spuithuisje situationele waarde door zijn beeldbepalende ligging aan het Grote Oost, naast de Oosterkerk.

FIRE ENGINE HOUSE dating from 1860, located on the southeast side of the Grote Oost, with the inscription "SPUIT B". This small building, designed by city architect B. Blanken, is the last of a total of five Hoorn fire engine houses. The interior has been converted into toilet facilities for the adjacent Oosterkerk.
Description
Fire engine house built on a square ground plan, of one storey under a tent roof covered with red Dutch tiles and crowned by a zinc finial. The symmetrical front facade (NW) has a stone plinth and above is plastered and provided with mock joints (imitation of cut stone blocks). In the centre of the facade is a broad clamped door. The front facade is terminated by a main cornice which is corniced at the location of the two austere corner pilasters. In the middle of the frieze "Spuit B" is painted. The rear and side facades are hidden from view by surrounding buildings.
Valuation
The fire engine house is of general importance for its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value and rarity value as a good example of a fire engine house from the second half of the nineteenth century, executed in a simple Neo-Classical style.
