Inleiding

Introduction

PARSONAGE constructed in a Craftsman-traditional style. The front house of the parsonage was built in 1880. For this the old dwelling site was partly demolished; the rear house from around 1700 remained. Around 1970 the Reformed parsonage came into use as a dwelling. In 1992-1995 the entire property was restored by architects Van der Veen and Bos from Groningen.

The parsonage is situated on a road that runs across the terp, on a spacious plot of land that is partly surrounded by a moat and bordered by ash and sycamore trees. On the south side there is an orchard. The drive, located to the right of the front, is closed off by an ACCESS GATE dating from 1880, consisting of four decorative concrete pillars with rounded top between which is an iron framework of rails and spikes with points; centrally two moving parts; at the sides decorative iron wings.

Description

PARSONAGE consisting of a BLOCK HOUSE with REAR HOUSE.

The one-storey, partly cellared symmetrical BLOCK HOUSE on rectangular plan is constructed in red brick and is covered by a flattened hipped roof with glazed black Frisian roof tiles; four brick chimneys; wooden cornice. The facades are articulated by arched T-windows under a reveal and brick pilasters.

The entrance in a porch is situated in the central risalit of the front facade (east side) and consists of two wooden panelled doors with cast-iron panels with arched fanlight under roller blind; hardstone steps three treads high; in the side walls of the porch a plastered niche; in the façade stone to the left of the entrance 'Rebuilt in the year 1880' and to the right 'Church board K. Doornbos, K. Boukema, B. Venhuis'. Above the entrance the facade is continued and is terminated by a wooden cornice beneath which a wooden balcony is supported by wooden decorative consoles; wooden and cast-iron balustrade; two wooden doors with semicircular fanlights under roller blind; at the sides a triangular window with decorative glazing bars. On either side of the entrance two T-windows and pilasters at the corners.

On the south side four T-windows and four pilasters.

On the rear facade (west side) the rear house is adjoined.

On the north side a wooden panelled door with arched fanlight in front of which a red brick step, four T-windows, two basement windows with anti-theft bar and four pilasters.

The REAR HOUSE on rectangular plan is constructed in reddish-brown brick and is covered by a hipped roof with black Frisian roof tiles; wall anchors (ornamental).

On the south side a wooden panelled door with arched fanlight under reveal, a six-pane window and two H-windows under roller blind. In the rear facade (west side) a six-pane and two square windows and a non-original door and window. On the north side three six-pane windows under roller blind. On the east side a clamped wooden door under reveal and two six-pane windows under a reveal; wooden cornice.

In the INTERIOR the following are of particular importance: in the hall the plastered ceiling and the wooden draught doors with coloured glass with fanlight with an iron decoration, in the living room the marble fireplace with plastered pilasters and moulding above it, the plastered ceiling and the blinds, in the rear room the wooden fireplace and the beam ceiling.

Valuation

Parsonage and access gate of general importance because of its architectural and cultural-historical value:

- as an example of a traditional parsonage with front house from 1880 and older rear house in the province of Groningen

- because of its plain design and detailing

- because of the high degree of integrity of the exterior and parts of the interior

- because of its prominent location in the centre of the terp village of Leermens
