Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Voormalige MARECHAUSSEEKAZERNE, hoekpand, omstreeks 1872 opgetrokken in eclectische vormen. Tegenwoordig doet het pand dienst als woning en atelier. Het pand is gelegen binnen het van rijkswege beschermde gezicht Heusden stadskern. De stoeppalen zijn reeds rijksmonument (nummer 22083).
Omschrijving. Hoekpand (hoek Lombardstraat) van één bouwlaag op vierkante grondslag onder een schilddak, gedekt met Hollandse pannen. Handvormbakstenen gevels, hoekpilasters, gecementeerde plint. Vensters licht getoogd met achtruits schuiframen. In een iets risalerend middengedeelte bevindt zich de houten paneeldeur met bovenlicht. Hierboven is een brede dakkapel met houten wangen geplaatst. Verspringende gootlijst. Fries, eveneens verspringend, geornamenteerd met casementen en ingebedde diamantkoppen. Zijgevel met identiek gedetailleerde vensters en gietijzeren schotelankers. Fries met siermetselwerk.
Het pand is symmetrisch van opbouw en heeft vijf traveeën. Voor het pand staan op een iets verhoogd gelegen stoep twee hardstenen, deels beschilderde, stoeppalen in de vorm van obelisken. Deze stoeppalen zijn al geplaatst op de rijkslijst van beschermde monumenten.
Achterliggend, aan de Lombardstraat, is hiertegenaan een onderkelderd gedeelte op rechthoekige grondslag geplaatst met gevels in schoon metselwerk onder een met Hollandse pannen gedekt zadeldak. De vensters zijn licht getoogd en hebben hardstenen onderdorpels en zesruits schuiframen. Aan de straatzijde is nog het laadluik voor de kelder zichtbaar. Gootlijst op houten klosjes.
Intern is de indeling van het tegenwoordige voorhuis symmetrisch met een centrale gang. Het achtergedeelte wordt als bedrijfsruimte gebruikt.
Waardering.
Het pand is van algemeen belang wegens de cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde die het heeft als bijzondere uitdrukking van een bestuurlijke en typologische ontwikkeling; namelijk de verwijzing naar de militaire functie die het ooit gehad heeft en de zeldzaamheid van het bouwtype. Tevens heeft het pand ensemblewaarde vanwege onder meer de gaafheid van het exterieur en de straatbeeldbepalende ligging die het heeft als hoekpand binnen het beschermde gezicht Heusden stadskern.

Former BARRACKS, corner building, erected circa 1872 in eclectic forms. The building currently serves as a dwelling and studio. The building is located within the nationally protected townscape of Heusden city centre. The bollards are already national monuments (number 22083).
Description. Corner building (corner of Lombardstraat) of one storey on a square ground plan beneath a hipped roof, covered with Dutch tiles. Handmoulded brick facades, corner pilasters, cemented plinth. Windows with light arches and cross windows with sash frames. In a slightly projecting central section there is a wooden panelled door with fanlight. Above this is a broad roof dormer with wooden cheeks. Recessed cornice. Frieze, also recessed, ornamented with casements and embedded diamond heads. Side facade with identically detailed windows and cast-iron bracket anchors. Frieze with decorative brickwork.
The building is symmetrical in composition and has five bays. In front of the building, on a slightly raised platform, stand two hard stone, partly painted, bollards in the form of obelisks. These bollards have already been placed on the national list of protected monuments.
Adjacent at the rear, on Lombardstraat, a basement section on a rectangular ground plan has been placed against it with facades in fair-faced brickwork beneath a gabled roof covered with Dutch tiles. The windows have light arches and hard stone lintels and six-light sash frames. On the street side the loading hatch for the basement is still visible. Cornice on wooden blocks.
Internally, the layout of the current front house is symmetrical with a central passage. The rear section is used as business premises.
Valuation.
The building is of general importance because of the cultural-historical and architectural-historical value it has as a particular expression of an administrative and typological development; namely the reference to the military function it once had and the rarity of the building type.
