Inleiding.
Gaaf bewaarde JOODSE BEGRAAFPLAATS, gelegen net buiten de Heusdense vesting aan de noordwestelijke zijde, waarschijnlijk aangelegd circa 1850-1870. Op de begraafplaats bevinden zich circa 17 zerken met opschrift alsmede een viertal kleine hardstenen paaltjes.
Omschrijving.
Kleine Joodse begraafplaats, gelegen in het voormalig schootsveld van de vestingwerken, aan de noordwestelijke zijde net buiten de vesting. De omstreeks 1850 aangelegde begraafplaats heeft een rechthoekige grondslag en meet circa 25 bij 8 meter. Het geheel wordt omgeven door een manshoge beukenhaag en heeft aan de voorzijde een tussen bakstenen pijlers aangebracht ijzeren poorthek met pijlpunten. Op de begraafplaats bevinden zich ongeveer 17 staande hardstenen zerken met verschillende bekroningen en spaarzame ornamentiek. De zerken dateren ruwweg uit de periode tussen 1870 en 1920. Op vrijwel alle zerken is in reliëf zowel een Hebreeuwse als een Nederlandse tekst aangebracht. Opvallend zijn de drie naast elkaar geplaatste hardstenen paaltjes met afgeronde top en een J in een cirkel. De functie hiervan is onbekend. Verder bevindt zich aan de noordzijde, tegen de beukenhaag, een klein hardstenen paaltje waarin een 2 is gebeiteld.
Waardering.
De Joodse begraafplaats is van algemeen belang wegens de cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling waarbij Joodse begraafplaatsen buiten bestaande vestingwerken aangelegd dienden te worden.
De Joodse begraafplaats heeft ensemblewaarden vanwege de aan de ligging inherente historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met de landelijk belangrijke vesting Heusden.
De Joodse begraafplaats is van algemeen belang wegens de structurele en visuele gaafheid van zowel het kavel als de zich daarop bevindende artefacten.

The whole is surrounded by a man-high beech hedge and has on the front side an iron gate with arrow points inserted between brick pillars. The cemetery contains approximately 17 standing hardstone gravestones with various crowning elements and sparse ornamentation. The gravestones date roughly from the period between 1870 and 1920. On virtually all gravestones both a Hebrew and a Dutch text have been applied in relief. Striking are the three hardstone posts placed side by side with rounded top and a J in a circle. The function of these is unknown. Furthermore, on the north side, against the beech hedge, there is a small hardstone post in which a 2 has been carved.
