Inleiding.
Het woonhuis werd in 1888 gebouwd in Eclectische stijl in opdracht van A. Gorren. Het pand omvat tevens een poortvormige toegang tot het grote achtererf. In de kern is het een uitbreiding van een ouder tweelaags en onderkelderd pand. De kapconstructie dateert uit de late middeleeuwen.
Omschrijving.
Het twee-en-een-halflaagse woonhuis met langgerekte plattegrond is opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen en heeft een samengesteld schilddak met zwarte oudhollandse dakpannen. Het pand telt vijf traveeën, met een centrale ingang. De plint en de vensterdorpels van de getoogde stolpvensters zijn van hardsteen. De dorpels rusten op klosjes; de bovenlichten zijn voorzien van glas-in-lood en de geprofileerde omlijsting wordt bekroond door een kuif. De paneeldeur heeft een getoogd bovenlicht en hierboven een balkon op bewerkte voluutconsoles met parelrand, diamantkop en acanthusblad. Naast de deur bevindt zich een half raam, vervolgens de eenvoudige korfboogpoort met sluitsteen. De borstwering van het balkon is van fijn gietijzer, evenals de raamhekjes met heraldische dierfiguren van de vensters op de etage. De zolder heeft tweelichts mezzaninoramen, hierboven volgt een gepleisterd fries met rustica velden, een tandlijst en bewerkte consoles die de geprofileerde kroonlijst dragen. De ruimte onder de poort heeft een recente vlakke houten zoldering gekregen. De achtergevel is gepleisterd. Boven de poort bevindt zich een getoogd stolpvenster. Achter het andere gedeelte bevinden zich diverse twee- en drielaagse aanbouwen, deels onder plat dak, deels onder schilddak met rode oudhollandse dakpannen. In dit totaal van tien traveeën bevinden zich de voordeuren van 5a en 5b. Ook deze muren zijn gepleisterd en voorzien van smalle muurankers.
Waardering.
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van de sociaaleconomische ontwikkeling en is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het huis met bedrijfsruimte. The two-and-a-half-storey dwelling house with elongated floor plan is constructed of machine-made brick and has a complex hipped roof with black traditional Dutch roof tiles. The building comprises five bays, with a central entrance. The plinth and window sills of the arched mullioned windows are of sandstone. The sills rest on blocks; the fanlights are provided with leaded glass and the moulded surround is crowned by a hood moulding. The panelled door has an arched fanlight and above it a balcony on worked scroll consoles with pearl edging, diamond head and acanthus leaf. Next to the door is a half window, followed by a simple basket arch gateway with keystone. The balcony balustrade is of fine cast iron, as are the window grilles with heraldic animal figures of the windows on the upper storey. The attic has two-light mezzanine windows, above this follows a plastered frieze with rustic fields, a dentil course and worked consoles carrying the moulded cornice. The space under the gateway has received a recent flat wooden ceiling. The rear facade is plastered. Above the gateway is an arched mullioned window. Behind the other section are various two- and three-storey extensions, partly with flat roofs, partly with hipped roofs with red traditional Dutch roof tiles. In this total of ten bays are the front doors of 5a and 5b. These walls are also plastered and provided with narrow wall anchors.
Valuation.
The dwelling house is of general interest. It has cultural-historical value as an example of socio-economic development and is also significant for the typological development of the house with business premises.
