Inleiding
SPUISLUIS van het type duikersluis met een directe afwatering in de Rijn, gesitueerd op de Rijnkade tegenover nummer 28. De sluis regelt de waterafvoer van riolen en voormalige waterstromen (overkluisde en verlegde beekstromen, grachten) uit de Arnhemse binnenstad. De gietijzeren heugelstang met tandwielen dateert uit de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw.
Tegenover Rijnkade 143 bevindt zich een vrijwel identieke sluis.
Omschrijving (bovengronds)
De sluis bestaat uit een gietijzeren rechte heugelstang met tandwielen en ingezwenkte voet op een rechthoekige onderbouw, welke is voorzien van een (niet oorspronkelijke) bakstenen omranding. De rechthoekige put-opening wordt afgesloten door een dubbel ijzeren luik. Boven de waterspiegel van de Rijn bevinden zich afvoeropeningen.
Waardering
Negentiende eeuwse SPUISLUIS.
- Van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van de afwatering van het in noordelijke richting sterk glooiende Arnhemse landschap, waarin waterstromen (waaronder de voor het ontstaan van Arnhem belangrijke Jansbeek) en rioleringen een weg zoeken naar de Rijn. Introduction
SPUING LOCK of the type culvert lock with direct discharge into the Rhine, situated on Rijnkade opposite number 28. The lock regulates the water discharge of sewers and former waterways (piped and diverted stream courses, canals) from the Arnhem city centre. The cast iron rack rod with cog wheels dates from the second half of the 19th century.
Opposite Rijnkade 143 there is a virtually identical lock.
Description (above ground)
The lock consists of a cast iron straight rack rod with cog wheels and bent foot on a rectangular substructure, which is provided with a (not original) brick surround. The rectangular pit opening is closed by a double iron hatch. Above the water surface of the Rhine are discharge openings.

Nineteenth century SPUING LOCK.
- Of cultural historical value as a particular expression of the water drainage of the Arnhem landscape which slopes strongly in a northern direction, in which waterways (including the Jansbeek which was important for the development of Arnhem) and sewerage systems find a way to the Rhine.
