Inleiding
Voormalige WINKEL met MAGAZIJN, nu WINKEL met BOVENWONING, ca. 1910-1915 gebouwd in um 1800-stijl. Kenmerkend voor deze, vooral bij kantoorpanden en warenhuizen toegepaste, architectuur, zijn de duidelijke geleding van de gevelopbouw en een gelijkmatige herhaling van decoratiemotieven, zoals festoenen en pilasters. Het pand is in gebruik geweest bij C&A en Bata.
Het pand heeft een afgeronde hoek en is gelegen aan het Land van de markt (centraal plein met vijf uitstralende straten) op de noordwestelijke hoek van de Bovenbeekstraat en de Ketelstraat. Het pand is opgenomen in de aaneengesloten gevelwanden van beide straten. De belendende bebouwing is anderhalve bouwlaag lager.
Omschrijving
Pand van vier hoge bouwlagen en zolderverdieping op rechthoekig grondplan met afgeronde hoek en gebroken dak met shingles.
De VOORGEVEL heeft een omvang van één travee aan de Ketelstraat, een afgeronde hoek en drie traveeën aan de Bovenbeekstraat. De gevel is wit gepleisterde en bezit een gemoderniseerde winkelpui in de eerste bouwlaag. De verdiepingen worden geleed door pilasters die per bouwlaag verjongen. De boven de gootlijst uitstekende fantasie-kapitelen hebben een afdekplaat en aan alle zijden een festoen-motief. De tweede, derde en vierde bouwlaag bezitten in elke travee een groot samengesteld rechthoekig venster met over de verdiepingen doorgaande geprofileerde stijlen (twee per vensteras). De vensters bestaan uit negen of twaalf ramen met glas-in-lood en stalen horizontale roeden. De vierde bouwlaag heeft in de rechter travee aan de Bovenbeekstraat en op de hoek een ondiep balkon met smeedijzeren sierhekken. De stijlen van de vensters zijn onder de balkons voorzien van kapitelen met bladmotieven. Beide traveeën worden beëindigd door een smeedijzeren balustrade, op de hoek met twee vlaggestokhouders, en een deur met driedelig bovenlicht in het dakschild. De overige drie traveeën worden afgesloten door klokgevels met elk een ovaal stalen negenruits venster en omlijsting (festoen en draperie).
Het INTERIEUR van de bovenwoning (tweede, derde en zolderverdieping) bezit onder meer een trappenhuis met trap om (dichtgestorte) liftschacht, enkele grote vertrekken met geprofileerde liggers in de dwarsrichting van het pand en een geheel met kraalschroten beschoten zolderverdieping.

WINKELPAND uit ca. 1910-1915.

Characteristic of this architecture, applied especially to office buildings and department stores, are the clear articulation of the facade composition and an even repetition of decorative motifs, such as festoons and pilasters. The building has been in use by C&A and Bata.
The building has a rounded corner and is situated at Land van de markt (central square with five radiating streets) on the northwestern corner of Bovenbeekstraat and Ketelstraat. The FRONT FACADE has a span of one bay on Ketelstraat, a rounded corner and three bays on Bovenbeekstraat. The facade is white plastered and features a modernised shop front on the first storey. The storeys are articulated by pilasters that taper per storey. The fantasy capitals projecting above the cornice line have a coping plate and a festoon motif on all sides. The second, third and fourth storeys have in each bay a large composite rectangular window with profiled mullions running across the storeys (two per window axis). The windows consist of nine or twelve panes with leaded glass and steel horizontal glazing bars. The fourth storey has in the right bay on Bovenbeekstraat and on the corner a shallow balcony with wrought iron decorative railings. The mullions of the windows are provided beneath the balconies with capitals with leaf motifs. Both bays are terminated by a wrought iron balustrade, on the corner with two flagstaff holders, and a door with three-part fanlight in the gable. The remaining three bays are closed by bell gables each with an oval steel nine-pane window and surround (festoon and drapery).
The INTERIOR of the upper floor dwelling (second, third and attic storeys) features among other things a stairwell with stair around a (filled-in) lift shaft, several large rooms with profiled beams in the transverse direction of the building and a storey entirely lined with beadwork.
