Inleiding
WINKELWONING, omstreeks 1850-1860 gebouwd ter plaatse van de vroegere synagoge, welke in 1852 verhuisde naar Pastoorstraat 17, en ca. 1880 uitgebreid met een winkelpui (voormalige slagerij, thans galerie) in eclectische stijl. Het pand is gelegen op de zuidwestelijke hoek van de Kerkstraat en de Bentinckstraat, aan een kruising met de Arke Noachstraat en 't Eiland. Het hoekpand vormt de afsluiting van de aaneengesloten, tweelaags gevelwanden van de Kerkstraat en de Bentinckstraat en staat in de zichtassen van de Zwanenstraat en de Arke Noachstraat.
Omschrijving
Onderkelderd HOEKPAND van twee bouwlagen en zolderverdieping op rechthoekig grondplan. De zolderverdieping heeft een schilddak met de nok parallel aan de Bentinckstraat en is belegd met gesmoorde oud Hollandse pannen. In het dakschild aan de Kerkstraat is een moderne dakkapel geplaatst. De rode bakstenen gevels zijn in kruisverband gemetseld en voorzien van een gepleisterde plint, een waterlijst ter hoogte van de lekdorpels op de verdieping en een afsluitende geprofileerde kroonlijst met vlak fries.
De VOORGEVEL (aan de Kerkstraat) heeft in de eerste bouwlaag een om de hoek gaande PUI. De pui met afgeschuinde hoek wordt geleed door pilasters (geprofileerd basement met diamantkop, schacht van rood/bruin graniet, eenvoudig lijstkapiteeltje, impost bestaande uit twee gekoppelde zuiltjes met bloemkapiteeltjes), en wordt afgesloten door een natuurstenen plint aan de onderzijde en een hoofdgestel met consoles aan de bovenzijde (geprofileerde lijst, fries met panelen, geprofileerde kroonlijst). Onder het hoofdgestel bevinden zich in de hoeken met pilasters zwikken van gesneden hout met ajour-werk. De PUI bestaat uit een ingang met flankerend venster links, en een winkelgedeelte met hoekingang tussen twee etalages rechts. De ingang bestaat uit een dubbele paneeldeur met twee ruitjes en smeedijzeren roosters onder een getoogd bovenlicht met cirkelmotieven in de zwikken. Het flankerende enkelruits schuifvenster heeft een zelfde bovenlicht. Het winkelgedeelte van de pui heeft in de afgeschuinde hoek een deur met grote ruit en recht gesloten bovenlicht. Het hoofdgestel boven de ingang beschrijft een rechte hoek. Aan weerszijden van de ingang bevindt zich een groot etalage-venster onder getoogd bovenlicht en cirkelmotieven in de zwikken. Rechts van het etalage-venster aan de Bentinckstraat bevindt zich een tweede ingang. De tweede bouwlaag heeft twee gepleisterde hoekpilasters met spiegels en eenvoudige lijstkapitelen en drie zesruits schuifvensters onder rechte strekken. De RECHTER ZIJGEVEL (aan de Bentinckstraat) heeft in de eerste bouwlaag een gedeelte van de winkelpui (links), twee T-schuifvensters met getoogde bovenlichten en een dubbele paneeldeur met diagonale schroten en twee smeedijzeren roosters onder een getoogd, tweeruits bovenlicht. De muuropeningen worden afgesloten door segmentboogstrekken. De verdieping heeft vijf zesruits schuifvensters onder rechte strekken. Het INTERIEUR bezit onder meer in de winkelruimte een tegelvloer in ruit- en sterpatronen (kleuren: antraciet, lever en beige) en twee wit marmeren toonbanken voor de etalage-vensters; een stucplafond en een zwart marmeren schouw in de kamer achter de winkel; een hal met tochtdeuren gevat in een klassiek hoofdgestel (hoekpilasters, gesneden stijlen en kalf, geprofileerde kroonlijst) en een trappenhuis met bordestrap; stucplafond op de eerste verdieping. De rangschikking van de kelders (drie stuks met tongewelven, waarvan één dicht gestort) duidt op oorspronkelijk drie kleinere panden met de voorgevels aan de Bentinckstraat.

SHOP-DWELLING, built around 1850-1860 on the site of the former synagogue, which moved in 1852 to Pastoorstraat 17, and enlarged around 1880 with a shop front (former butcher's shop, now gallery) in eclectic style. The property is located on the south-western corner of the Kerkstraat and the Bentinckstraat, at a crossing with the Arke Noachstraat and 't Eiland. The corner property forms the termination of the continuous two-storey facade walls of the Kerkstraat and the Bentinckstraat and stands in the sight lines of the Zwanenstraat and the Arke Noachstraat.
Description
Cellared CORNER PROPERTY of two storeys and an attic storey on a rectangular ground plan. The attic storey has a hipped roof with the ridge parallel to the Bentinckstraat and is covered with chamfered old Dutch tiles. In the roof slope facing the Kerkstraat a modern roof dormer has been installed. The red brick facades are laid in cross-bond and provided with a plastered plinth, a drip moulding at the height of the water outlets on the storey and a closing profiled cornice with flat frieze.
The FRONT FACADE (facing the Kerkstraat) has a shop front going around the corner on the first storey. The shop front with bevelled corner is articulated by pilasters (profiled basement with diamond head, shaft of red/brown granite, simple list capital, impost consisting of two coupled columns with flower capitals) and is closed off by a natural stone plinth on the underside and a main architrave with consoles on the upper side (profiled list, frieze with panels, profiled cornice). Below the main architrave are in the corners with pilasters spandrels of carved wood with openwork. The SHOP FRONT consists of an entrance with flanking window to the left, and a shop section with corner entrance between two display windows to the right. The entrance consists of a double panel door with two panes and wrought iron grilles beneath a segmental fanlight with circle motifs in the spandrels. The flanking single-pane sash window has the same fanlight. The shop section of the front has a door with large pane and straight-topped fanlight in the bevelled corner. The main architrave above the entrance describes a right angle. On either side of the entrance is a large display window under segmental fanlight and circle motifs in the spandrels. To the right of the display window facing the Bentinckstraat is a second entrance. The second storey has two plastered corner pilasters with panels and simple list capitals and three six-pane sash windows under straight lintels. The RIGHT SIDE FACADE (facing the Bentinckstraat) has a section of the shop front (to the left), two T-sash windows with segmental fanlights and a double panel door with diagonal schrots and two wrought iron grilles beneath a segmental two-pane fanlight. The wall openings are closed off by segmental arch lintels. The storey has five six-pane sash windows under straight lintels. The INTERIOR possesses among others in the shop space a tile floor in diamond and star patterns (colours: anthracite, liver and beige) and two white marble counters in front of the display windows; a stucco ceiling and a black marble fireplace in the room behind the shop; a hall with draught doors set in a classical architrave (corner pilasters, carved stiles and calf, profiled cornice) and a stairwell with a landing staircase; stucco ceiling on the first storey. The arrangement of the cellars (three with barrel vaults, one of which blocked off) indicates originally three smaller properties with the front facades facing the Bentinckstraat.
