Inleiding.
Op de kruising van Aanwas en Oude Dijk staat, markant gesitueerd in de as van de Oude Dijk, een WOONHUIS in Ambachtelijk-Traditionele stijl met Eclectische elementen. Het pand, dat met de voorgevel naar Aanwas is gekeerd, dateert uit 1890. In de zuidelijke gevel zit een kleine hardstenen gevelsteen, slechts gedeeltelijk leesbaar, met het opschrift "Dorothea / Mattheussens (?) / 1890". is. Aan de achterzijde is omstreeks 1900 een kleine aanbouw geplaatst. Deze aanbouw valt binnen de bescherming.
Omschrijving.
Het huis heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en wordt gedekt door een zadeldak met kruispannen. Tegen het eenlaags huis zijn aan de achterzijde twee aanbouwen geplaatst; aan de noordelijke zijde een voormalige bedrijfsaanbouw met dienstruimten; aan de zuidelijke zijde een uitbreiding van de keuken. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen. De zuidelijke gevel is geheel gepleisterd in blokverband. De straatgevel heeft een symmetrische opzet met vijf assen. In het schoon metselwerk boven de vensters en deur forse mozaïeken in strengperssteen. Op de hoeken hardstenen geblokte lisenen. De paneelvoordeur met bovenlicht heeft een hardstenen omlijsting met afdekplaat op consoles. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een forse kroonlijst, bestaande uit een getand fries en een geprofileerde houten gootlijst. Voorts heeft de gevel een hardstenen plint, terwijl ook de dorpels in dat materiaal zijn uitgevoerd. De voordeur wordt geflankeerd door tweemaal twee licht getoogde schuifvensters, waarvan de indeling vereenvoudigd is. In de strekken een geboortesteen. In de zuidelijke gevel, die ter hoogte van de kap is voorzien van zware smeedijzeren muurankers, een gemoderniseerd T-venster op de begane grond, en twee schuifvensters, voorzien van houten rolluiken op de etage. In de top van de gevel een klein rondlicht. In deze gevel zijn verschillende kleine gietijzeren roosters geplaatst.
De achtergevel van het pand heeft tweemaal twee schuifvensters met een vereenvoudigde indeling en een deur met een bovenlicht. Ook hier wordt de gevel door een geprofileerde gootlijst afgesloten. De noordelijke aanbouw heeft een zadeldak met pannen, en bestaat uit voormalige bedrijfsruimten, waaronder een kleine stal met taszolder. In de gevel een T-schuifvenster en tweemaal een opgeklampte deur. In de topgevel van de eindgevel enkele duiventilopeningen. In de zuidelijke aanbouw, waarvan de gevels deels gepleisterd zijn, is de keuken ondergebracht. Het zadeldak is ook hier gedekt met kruispannen. Op het achtererf staat tegen de gevel van de noordelijke aanbouw een gietijzeren pomp met huis.
Waardering.
Het herenhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van West-Brabant, het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het dorpswoonhuis. Het object is van architectuurhistorisch belang door de stijl en detaillering, met name de siermozaïeken. The front door is flanked by twice two lightly arched sash windows, of which the glazing has been simplified. In the sills a birth stone. In the southern facade, which at the level of the roof is provided with heavy wrought-iron wall anchors, a modernised T-window on the ground floor, and two sash windows, fitted with wooden roller shutters on the upper floor. In the top of the facade a small circular light. Various small cast-iron grilles have been placed in this facade.
The rear facade of the building has twice two sash windows with a simplified glazing pattern and a door with a fanlight. Here too the facade is terminated by a profiled gutter moulding. The northern extension has a gabled roof with tiles, and consists of former business premises, including a small stable with a hay loft. In the facade a T-sash window and twice a hinged door. In the top gable of the end facade a few pigeon holes. In the southern extension, of which the facades are partly rendered, the kitchen is located. The gabled roof is also covered here with interlocking tiles. On the rear courtyard, against the facade of the northern extension, stands a cast-iron pump with pump house.

The townhouse is of general importance.
