Inleiding
In 1916 door P.M.A. Huurman uit Groningen ontworpen en in 1917 gebouwd WINKELPAND voor de fa. C.& A. Brenninkmeijer in de Um 1800-stijl. Het pand is opgenomen in de zuidelijke gevelwand van de Nieuwestad. Na enkele verbouwingen zijn de drie verdiepingen van de voorgevel en de zijgevels en het dak over.
Omschrijving
Het WINKELPAND is vier bouwlagen hoog en negen traveeën breed. De voorgevel en oostelijke zijgevel zijn uitgevoerd in pleisterwerk. Boven de meermalen gewijzigde pui, die behoudens de vier penanten niet onder de bescherming valt, bevindt zich een composiete kolossaalorde. De vensters van de eerste verdieping kregen een andere roedeverdeling. Daarboven bevinden zich gegoten hoogreliëfs. De tweede verdieping heeft stolpvensters met twaalfruits bovenlichten. Tussen deze vensters en de vierkante twaalfruitsvensters van de bovenste verdieping bevinden zich festoenen. Het fries is gekornist en draagt boven de drie middelste assen een fronton met in het timpaan een medaillon met de letters C & A omgeven door rolwerk. Voorts is het timpaan gevuld met takken, bladeren en vruchten. De geprofileerde gootlijst wordt gedragen door gootklossen. De oostelijke zijgevel bevat een reeks kleine vensters en is naar boven afgesloten door een kroonlijst en geprofileerde daklijst. Het afgeknotte schilddak is belegd met leien in maasdekking.

Designed in 1916 by P.M.A. Huurman from Groningen and built in 1917, a SHOP BUILDING for the firm C.& A. Brenninkmeijer in the Um 1800 style. Description
The SHOP BUILDING is four storeys high and nine bays wide. The front facade and eastern side facade are executed in plasterwork. Above the frequently modified shop front, which apart from the four pilasters does not fall under the protection, is a composite colossal order. The windows of the first storey received different glazing bars. Above these are located cast high reliefs. The second storey has casement windows with twelve-pane fanlights. Between these windows and the square twelve-pane windows of the top storey are festoons. The frieze is corniced and carries above the three central bays a pediment with in the tympanum a medallion with the letters C & A surrounded by scrollwork. Furthermore the tympanum is filled with branches, leaves and fruit. The moulded gutter list is carried by gutter brackets. The eastern side facade contains a series of small windows and is closed at the top by a cornice and moulded roof list. The truncated hipped roof is covered with slate in Maas-bond.

Facade of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:
