Inleiding
(Voormalige) ARBEIDERSWONING uit 1889 die in 1903 is uitgebreid tot een dubbele arbeiderswoning. Het rechter gedeelte werd in 1889 gebouwd in opdracht van Jacob Bouwen, die na de uitbreiding in 1903 het linker gedeelte ging bewonen. In de jaren zestig van de twintigste eeuw is het pand in gebruik genomen als atelierwoning.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan opgetrokken dubbele arbeiderswoning van één bouwlaag onder een met rode Hollandse pannen gedekt zadeldak met de nok evenwijdig aan de Kerkbrink. Aan de achterzijde bevindt zich een aangeluifeld lessenaarsdak boven de keuken en de voormalige kleinveestalling. De buitenmuren zijn halfsteens uitgevoerd. De voorgevel (NO) is opgetrokken in rode machinale Waalsteen in halfsteens verband en wordt afgesloten door een goot op gesneden klossen. De rechter woning heeft aan de voorzijde een negenruits schuifvenster, de linker woning twee zesruits schuifvensters. Alle drie vensters zijn voorzien van luiken.
De kopse zijgevels zijn beide uitgevoerd als een geblokt gepleisterde topgevel met eenvoudige windveren en een makelaar. In de linkerzijgevel (ZO) bevindt zich links een in de keuken uitkomende paneeldeur met gietijzerwerk, en in het midden een klein stolpraam (waarnaast rechts een uitzetraampje van na de bouwtijd). Middenboven geeft een opgeklampt luik met bovenlicht toegang tot de voormalige hooizolder. De rechterzijgevel (NW) bevat in het midden twee gekoppelde openslaande ramen en middenboven een stolpraam. Van de lage achtergevel (ZW) is de rechter helft op de verdwenen blokgoot na nog oorspronkelijk (metselwerk als voor) en zowel rechts als links voorzien van een klein venster. Inwendig bevat het pand enkele interieurelementen uit de bouwtijd waaronder in de keuken en het aangrenzende vertrek een vloer van rode en grijze plavuizen in schaakbordpatroon, en boven de laatstgenoemde ruimte en het linker gedeelte van de woonkamer een enkelvoudige balklaag waarop een uit brede delen bestaande zoldervloer. Van de bedstedenwand achterin de woonkamer resteert de achterwand. In de uit brede delen bestaande rechter wand van de keuken bevindt zich een opgeklampte deur die toegang geeft tot de voormalige geitenstalling middenachter. Het linker gedeelte hiervan heeft nog een vloer van gele IJsselsteentjes. De pannen van het aangeluifelde lessenaarsdak boven de stal en de keuken zijn met riet onderschoten.
Waardering
De (voormalige) dubbele arbeiderswoning is van algemeen belang wegens de cultuurhistorische en typologische waarde als grotendeels gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van een arbeiderswoning uit het einde van de negentiende eeuw en het begin van de twintigste eeuw. Tevens heeft het pand situationele waarde vanwege de beeldbepalende ligging aan de Kerkbrink, bij de hervormde kerk van Groet.

(Former) WORKERS' DWELLING from 1889 which was extended in 1903 to a double workers' dwelling. The right section was built in 1889 on the commission of Jacob Bouwen, who after the extension in 1903 went to inhabit the left section. In the nineteen-sixties the building was taken into use as an artist's residence.
Description
Double workers' dwelling erected on a rectangular ground plan of one storey under a gabled roof with red Dutch tiles with the ridge parallel to the Kerkbrink. At the rear there is a lean-to roof above the kitchen and the former small livestock stall. The external walls are constructed in half-brick. The front facade (NE) is constructed in red machine-made Flemish brick in half-brick bond and is finished with a gutter on cut brackets. The right dwelling has a nine-pane sash window on the front, the left dwelling two six-pane sash windows. All three windows are provided with shutters.
The gable end side facades are both executed as a rusticated plastered stepped gable with simple wind braces and a tie. In the left side facade (SE) is on the left a panel door opening into the kitchen with cast iron work, and in the middle a small fixed light (next to which on the right is an outward-opening window of a later date). Midway up a clamped shutter with fanlight gives access to the former hayloft. The right side facade (NW) contains in the middle two coupled opening windows and midway up a fixed light. Of the low rear facade (SW) the right half is still original except for the disappeared drip moulding (masonry as front) and both on the right and left is provided with a small window. Internally the building contains some interior elements from the construction period including in the kitchen and the adjacent room a floor of red and grey tiles in checkerboard pattern, and above the last-mentioned space and the left part of the living room a single floor joist on which rests a floor composed of broad sections. Of the wall of box beds at the back of the living room only the rear wall remains. In the kitchen wall composed of broad sections is a clamped door which gives access to the former goat shed in the middle of the rear. The left part of this still has a floor of yellow IJsselsteentjes. The tiles of the lean-to roof above the stall and the kitchen are thatch-lined.
Valuation
The (former) double workers' dwelling is of general interest due to its cultural-historical and typological value as a largely well-preserved example of a workers' dwelling from the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century. The building also has situational value due to its image-determining location on the Kerkbrink, near the Reformed church of Groet.
