Inleiding
De achter een scheepswerfje, bij de haven gelegen voormalige SMEDERIJ is in het eerste kwart van de twintigste eeuw waarschijnlijk gebouwd als woonhuis. Een procesverbaal van de hinderwet d.d. 16-8 1928 maakt melding van een nieuw te bouwen smederij 'ten westen van de woning van K. van Eerde*, wijk II no. 26', de straat en het huisnummer van het betreffende pand. Hieruit kan worden geconcludeerd dat niet het pand Wijk 2 nr. 26 als smederij is gebouwd, maar dat het belendende kavel hiervoor was bestemd.
Het door een ambachtelijk-traditionele bouwtrant gekenmerkte pand heeft (mogelijk in plaats van de nieuw te bouwen smederij) lange tijd de functie van smederij gehad.

Omschrijving
Het pand is opgebouwd vanuit een aan de voorzijde (straatzijde) trapeziumvormige en aan de achterzijde rechthoekige plattegrond. De in rode baksteen, met accenten van gele verblendsteen, opgetrokken voormalige smederij is verdiepingloos en staat onder een met verbeterde hollandse pannen gedekt zadeldak. De noordelijke kopgevel is een tuitgevel met op de begane grond een deur en drie dichtgetimmerde getoogde vensters met zesruits ijzeren ramen en onderdorpels met afzaat. Alle gevelopeningen staan onder segmentbogen van verblendsteen. De originele, opgeklampte deur rechts in de gevel staat onder een bovenlicht. Ten hoogte van de dakaanzet is de gevel voorzien van uitkragende schouders.
In het gevelvlak tussen de schouders bevinden zich drie smeedijzeren sierankers. De geveltop bevat een onder een rollaag staand rechtgesloten zoldervenster met zesruits raam, alsmede een rand met decoratieve metselverbanden en een uitgemetselde rollaag. De tuit (tenant) heeft een aanzet van verblendsteen (klimmend keper) en is voorzien van een sieranker. De beide zijgevels zijn blind. Aan de westelijke gevel zijn nog de oorspronkelijke smeedijzeren gootbeugels bevestigd. De achtergevel is een puntgevel met houten windveren en gevelteken (makelaar). De gevelopeningen zijn van links naar rechts: een thans dichtgetimmerde deur met rechtgesloten drieruits bovenlicht onder rollaag en twee getoogde vensters als die in de voorgevel. Tussen het linker venster en het onder rollaag staande zoldervenster bevinden zich twee smeedijzeren sierankers.
Waardering
De voormalige smederij is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische, de architectuurhistorische en de stedenbouwkundige waarde.

Introduction
The former BLACKSMITH'S SHOP located behind a small shipyard, near the harbour, was probably built in the first quarter of the twentieth century as a dwelling house. A report of the nuisance law dated 16-8-1928 mentions a newly to be built blacksmith's shop 'to the west of the dwelling of K. van Eerde*, district II no. 26', the street and house number of the property in question. From this it can be concluded that the property at District 2 no. 26 was not built as a blacksmith's shop, but that the adjoining plot was intended for this purpose.
The property, characterized by a traditional artisanal building style, has for a long time served the function of a blacksmith's shop (possibly in place of the newly to be built blacksmith's shop).

Description
The property is constructed from a plan that is trapezoidal at the front (street side) and rectangular at the rear. The former blacksmith's shop, built in red brick with accents of yellow facing brick, is single-storey and stands under a hipped roof covered with improved Dutch tiles. The northern end gable is a spout gable with on the ground floor a door and three boarded-up arched windows with six-pane iron frames and undersills with drip edges. All gable openings are under segment arches of facing brick. The original, clamped door on the right in the gable stands under a fanlight. At the height of the roof eaves, the gable is provided with projecting shoulders.
In the gable plane between the shoulders are three wrought-iron ornamental wall anchors. The gable top contains a closed-up attic window with six-pane frame standing under a roll moulding, as well as a band with decorative masonry patterns and a finished roll moulding. The spout (tenant) has a facing brick base (climbing herringbone) and is provided with an ornamental wall anchor. Both side gables are blind. On the western gable the original wrought-iron gutter brackets are still attached. The rear gable is a pointed gable with wooden wind braces and a gable mark (maker's mark). The gable openings are, from left to right: a now boarded-up door with a closed-up three-pane fanlight under a roll moulding and two arched windows like those in the front gable. Between the left window and the attic window standing under a roll moulding are two wrought-iron ornamental wall anchors.
