Inleiding
Het voormalige PAKHUIS is omstreeks 1870 ontworpen in eclectische bouwstijl. De stucwerk ornamenten verwijzen naar de engelse Tudorgotiek. Het pand maakt deel uit van de aaneengesloten bebouwing aan de noordoostkant van de Nieuwe Rijn, binnen het beschermd stadsgezicht.
Omschrijving
Het voormalig pakhuis is over drie bouwlagen boven een hardstenen plint opgetrokken in rode baksteen onder een plat dak. De symmetrische voorgevel is horizontaal geleed door witgeverfde geprofileerde houten waterlijsten. Verticaal is de gevel in drieën gedeeld door gepleisterde lisenen, met een keperboogbeëindiging. De ingang bevindt zich in de middenpartij, die aan de bovenzijde is afgesloten door een gepleisterde keperboog. De gehele gevel is afgedekt door een houten smalle kroonlijst.
Op de lisenen grote ijzeren sierankers. Direct onder de keperbogen pleisterwerk met afgeschuinde en rondgesloten spaarvelden. In het metselwerk onder de kroonlijst een tandlijst.
Op de begane grond en eerste verdieping gekoppelde rechtgesloten achtruits vensters tussen de houten geprofileerde waterlijsten. Witte houten stijlen tussen de vensters.
Onderverdeelde rondboogvensters op de tweede verdieping. De ingang bestaat uit een dubbele houten lattendeur met bovenlichten. Daarboven twee hijsluiken met bovenlichten, waarin een diagonale roedenverdeling. Op de eerste verdieping is het bovenlicht rechtgesloten, op de tweede verdieping keperboogvormig.
Waardering
Voormalig pakhuis uit omstreeks 1870 van algemeen belang vanwege architectuur-en cultuurhistorische waarde als zeldzaam voorbeeld van een traditioneel opslaggebouw in eclectische trant met neogotische elementen. Stedenbouwkundig is het pand van grote betekenis als beeldbepalend onderdeel van de gevelwand aan de Nieuwe Rijn.
De voorgevel, materiaalgebruik en detaillering van het voormalige pakhuis zijn gaaf bewaard.

The former WAREHOUSE was designed around 1870 in eclectic building style. The stucco ornaments refer to English Tudor Gothic. The building is part of the continuous built-up area on the north-eastern side of the Nieuwe Rijn, within the protected townscape.
Description
The former warehouse is built over three storeys above a hardstone plinth in red brick under a flat roof. The symmetrical front facade is horizontally articulated by whitewashed moulded wooden drip mouldings. Vertically the facade is divided into three parts by plastered pilasters, with a basket-handle arch termination. The entrance is located in the central section, which is closed at the top by a plastered basket-handle arch. The entire facade is covered by a narrow wooden cornice.
On the pilasters large iron ornamental wall anchors. Directly below the basket-handle arches plasterwork with chamfered and rounded-off spandrels. In the masonry below the cornice a dentil course.
On the ground floor and first floor coupled right-angled two-light windows between the wooden moulded drip mouldings. White wooden mullions between the windows.
Subdivided round-arch windows on the second floor. The entrance consists of a double wooden lattice door with fanlights. Above it two hoisting shutters with fanlights, featuring a diagonal glazing bar division. On the first floor the fanlight is right-angled, on the second floor basket-handle arch-shaped.
Valuation
Former warehouse from around 1870 of general importance due to architectural and cultural-historical value as a rare example of a traditional storage building in eclectic style with neo-Gothic elements. From an urban planning perspective the building is of great significance as an image-determining component of the facade wall on the Nieuwe Rijn.
The front facade, use of materials and detailing of the former warehouse are well preserved.
