Inleiding
19e eeuwse VISHANG (rokerij),indertijd eigendom van de familie De Rook. De hang, bestemd voor het roken van in dit geval bokking, is een voorbeeld van het hoge type dat veelal voor 1870 in gebruik was en dat een droog en stevig product opleverde(burgerhard). De hang is, zij het deels ingebouwd door een uitbreiding die buiten de bescherming valt, nog vrijwel origineel. Het is een van de laatste hangen van dit type in Lemmer. Een tweede hang, die onderdeel van dit bedrijf uitmaakte, is gesloopt.
Omschrijving
De bakstenen HANG dateert vermoedelijk uit de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw, is opgetrokken in rode baksteen en loopt aan één zijde taps toe. De pannen die de bovenzijde van de hang afdekten ontbreken. In de zuidoostzijde zijn de beluchtingsgaten nog aanwezig, in de noord-westzijde zijn deze dichtgemetseld voor de uitbreiding op het achterste gedeelte van het bedrijf.
Waardering
De vishang is van algemeen architectuurhistorisch en cultuurhistorisch belang:
- vanwege zijn binding met de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van Lemmer met name in de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw;
- vanwege de bijzondere uitdrukking van een technische en typologische ontwikkeling, namelijk het roken van "burgerharde" bokking;
- vanwege de typologische en functionele zeldzaamheid van de hang voor de provincie Friesland in het algemeen en het dorp Lemmer in het bijzonder;

Introduction
19th century FISH SMOKING HOUSE (smokery), formerly owned by the De Rook family. The smoking house, intended for smoking in this case kipper, is an example of the tall type that was mostly in use before 1870 and that produced a dry and firm product (burgerhard). The smoking house is, although partly built in by an extension that falls outside the protected area, still virtually original. It is one of the last smoking houses of this type in Lemmer. A second smoking house, which was part of this business, has been demolished.
Description
The brick SMOKING HOUSE probably dates from the second half of the 19th century, is constructed in red brick and tapers to a point on one side. The tiles that covered the top of the smoking house are missing. In the south-east side the ventilation holes are still present, in the north-west side these have been bricked in for the extension to the rear part of the business.
Valuation
The fish smoking house is of general architectural-historical and cultural-historical importance:
- because of its connection with the socio-economic development of Lemmer, particularly in the second half of the 19th century;
- because of the special expression of a technical and typological development, namely the smoking of "burgerhard" kipper;
