Omschrijving
Waardering
De PARKAANLEG is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom;
- vanwege de uitzonderlijk lange en smalle aanleg met zichtas;

Description
Component 2
Description
PARK LAYOUT, 18th and 19th centuries, consisting of: a. house island; b. rear park.
Re a.: the house island, in layout possibly 16th century or older, is relatively large and is surrounded by a broad moat, of which the northern arm runs directly along the Hoofdweg; along the inner bank of the east and south arms stands a row of old oaks; the borg and the outbuilding to the west of it lie in the north-west corner of the island; in front of the borg a roughly circular path with limes from the bridge, which lies in the central axis; near the house several old monumental trees: remains of the 19th-century landscape layout; directly behind the house a round pond in the axis, possibly an element from the 18th-century geometric layout; to the north-east and east of the borg stretches of meadow with many old specimen trees; some of it (formerly orchard) is now laid out as a deer park; in the south-east corner a meadow, partly surrounded by young beech hedges; in the south-west corner and to the south of the outbuilding remains of a vegetable garden and orchards and a young wood; along the outside of the west arm of the moat runs a monumental lime avenue with several rows, unmade; characteristic of the house island is the fact that the two garden styles (landscape and geometric) are both still clearly recognisable and in balance.
Re b.: the rear park, 17th century and later, is very remarkable because of its exceptional ground plan: a very long and narrow rectangle, which in character consists of two parts; the part that adjoins the house island is open in structure and consists of small meadows accompanied by wooded strips; against the east wood lies a steep high hill, which is covered with old specimen trees (ash and chestnut): the only "English" element in this park section; the second and largest part of the rear park (and of the entire complex) is the wooded area to the south of it; in this the central axis with its enormous length is the most important element; there are only parallel and cross lanes and drainage ditches; the two outer lanes frame the wooded area: the western lane and the Turflaan, which both begin on the Hoofdweg; both lanes still have for part of their length very fine old planting, especially of oak and lime; between the Turflaan and the wood lies a strip of meadow land. In the 1960s a cross canal was dug at approximately two-thirds of the park length with a new bridge in the central lane; the wood has always consisted largely of large specimen trees on raised beds. The central axis has no clear lane planting, except at the beginning, where young beeches and - further to the south - young oaks stand; all in several rows.
Valuation
The PARK LAYOUT is of general importance:
- because of its age;
- because of the exceptionally long and narrow layout with sight line;
- because of the landscape-visual values: silhouette effect of the high old trees.
