Inleiding
De voormalige SMIDSE met woonhuis is gebouwd rond 1905 en bevindt zich in de kern van Hapert. Het bedrijfsgedeelte is nu in gebruik als hobbyruimte. Het woonhuis valt niet onder de bescherming ingevolge de Monumentenwet.
Omschrijving
Het eenlaagse vrijstaande pand telt drie traveeën en heeft een mansardekap met de nok parallel aan de straat, belegd met zwarte kruispannen. Het pand heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond. De gevels met gekrulde ijzeren sierankers zijn opgetrokken uit rode baksteen. De plint is gepleisterd. In de voorgevel bevinden zich twee getoogde ijzeren ramen met kleine roeden in sierverdeling. Hiertussen is de paneeldeur met getoogd driedelig bovenlicht. De zijgevel heeft op de begane grond drie getoogde ijzeren vensters, waarvan de middelste lager is uitgevoerd. Op de zolderetage is er een hoge laaddeur geflankeerd door getoogde ijzeren negenruits ramen. De achtergevel is voorzien van een getoogd ijzeren raam en rechtgesloten inrijdeuren. Het interieur van de vroegere smidse is zeer sober. De vuurplaats is nog aanwezig. Een open steektrap leidt naar de zolderverdieping.
Waardering
De voormalige smidse is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de nijverheid en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de dorpssmederij. Het is architectuurhistorisch van belang vanwege de uiterst eenvoudige stijl en de ornamentiek en als voorbeeld van de toegepaste combinatie van fabrieksmatig vervaardigde bouwelementen. The single-storey detached building has three bays and has a mansard roof with the ridge parallel to the street, covered with black Flemish bond tiles. The building has a rectangular floor plan. The facades with ornamental curled iron wall anchors are built of red brick. The plinth is plastered. In the front facade are two arched iron windows with small panes in ornamental glazing bars. Between these is the panelled door with arched three-part fanlight. The side facade has on the ground floor three arched iron windows, of which the middle one is executed lower. On the attic storey is a high loading door flanked by arched iron nine-pane windows. The rear facade is provided with an arched iron window and straight-closed carriage doors. The interior of the former smithy is very austere. The fireplace is still present. An open stair leads to the attic storey.
