Omschrijving onderdeel 1: HUISPLAATS MET RUINE.
Ongeveer in het midden van het omgrachte gebied ligt de op zijn beurt eveneens omgrachte huisplaats. De grachten aan noord- oost- en westzijde zijn bij de aanleg van de tuin in landschapsstijl tot bredere vijvers vergraven. De zuidelijke gracht is gedempt. Vanaf het punt van het voormalige bordes valt de verhoogde ligging ten opzicht van de tuinaanleg ervoor op. De ruïne bestaat uit de kelder- of onderverdieping van het huis uit 1757 op vloerniveau met enig opgaand muurwerk. De indeling met middengang en vertrekken aan weerszijden is nog goed zichtbaar. Tevens zichtbaar is de aanzet tot de 18-eeuwse dubbele brug en de wijze waarop deze is aangepast na de demping van de gracht. Toen zijn er aan weerszijden trappen als toegang tot de onderverdieping gemaakt. In de ruïne is een museale opstelling van teruggevonden bouwfragmenten aangebracht. Aangenomen wordt dat zich onder deze ruïne nog restanten van het middeleeuwse kasteel bevinden.
Waardering
De HUISPLAATS MET RUINE behorend tot de historische buitenplaats Hemmen is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch belang:
- wegens de ouderdom, namelijk die van het oorspronkelijke 14-eeuwse kasteel;
- wegens het archeologische belang van de mogelijk nog aanwezige restanten van het kasteel;
- als middelpunt van de parkaanleg;
- als herinnering aan zowel het voormalige 18de-eeuwse Huis Hemmen als aan de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Description component 1: HOMESTEAD WITH RUIN.
Approximately in the middle of the ditched area lies the homestead, which is itself also ditched. The ditches on the north, east and west sides were excavated into broader ponds during the creation of the landscape-style garden. The southern ditch has been filled in. From the point of the former landing platform, the elevated position relative to the garden layout is striking. The ruin consists of the basement or lower storey of the house from 1757 at floor level with some standing masonry. The layout with a central corridor and rooms on either side is still clearly visible. Also visible is the beginning of the 18th-century double bridge and the way in which it was adapted after the ditch was filled in. At that time, stairs were created on either side as access to the lower storey. A museum display of recovered building fragments has been arranged in the ruin. It is assumed that remains of the medieval castle still lie beneath this ruin.
