Omschrijving
Omschrijving complexonderdeel 3

Description
Description of complex component 3
The HISTORICAL PARK LAYOUT in mixed style, in which remnants of a geometric rose garden to the west of the house have been created and a landscape park to the south, east and north of the house, is one of the earliest executed designs by landscape architect L.A. Springer.
The park comprises an almost square plot of land with a broad branch sloping across it towards the Maartensdijkseweg. The main entrance to the country estate and park is located on the Maartensdijkseweg. A wooden bridge over the field ditch alongside the road connects to the asphalted driveway leading to the country house. After the bridge, the driveway curves in an easterly direction but then gradually bends westwards in a curve to end on the east side of the centrally located country house. Along the driveway, there are two large groups of trees and shrubs on the left side (including beeches and oaks), between which sight lines extend from the country house. The right side is characterized by more continuous planting. This planting is interrupted at the coach house. After the coach house there is a branch off to the right. This walking path makes a large elliptical arc and eventually emerges to the north of the country house. The open area to the west of this path is planted with deliberately placed specimen trees, but currently appears somewhat unkempt due to lack of maintenance. The walk via this path provides fine views of the country house. The path had a number of branches that crossed the open area, but these have now disappeared. There is a branch in a northerly direction towards the park wood, which is of secondary importance due to the absence of any layout structures.
Of the geometric garden to the west of the house, only the perimeter has been preserved today. The sunken garden has a rectangular ground plan and is bounded on the north and south sides by an overgrown pergola.
From the terrace on the south side of the house there is a fine view over the meadow, which lies to the west of the driveway. Specimen trees enhance the depth effect and the sight lines are nicely framed.
Valuation
The historical park layout designed by L.A. Springer is of general importance due to its garden architectural history value as an example of a park layout in mixed style and is also important as an early design in Springer's oeuvre. Furthermore, it is of importance due to its ensemble value in relation to the country house and coach house.
