Inleiding
Het zondagsschoolgebouwtje in Amsterdamse Schooltrant is in 1932 gebouwd. Het was een schenking van de gebroeders Schalij uit Abcoude. Het gebouwtje is gesitueerd buiten Abcoude nabij de Vinkenbuurt aan het riviertje de Gein. Behalve als zondagsschool werd het ook gebruikt bij feestelijke, kerkelijke bijeenkomsten. Tot 1975 is het als zondagsschool in gebruik geweest. Via een betonnen brug met een houten toegangshek betreedt men het terrein waarop het gebouwtje staat.
Omschrijving
De voormalige ZONDAGSSCHOOL uit 1932 is gelegen aan de voet van de dijkweg aan de noordzijde van het riviertje de Gein. Het heeft een rechthoekig grondplan en bestaat uit één bouwlaag onder een zadeldak met de nok haaks op de weg. Het dak is gedekt met gesmoorde Hollandse pannen. Op de nok is halverwege een houten met zink beklede dakruiter met een zinken spits geplaatst. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen in halfsteens verband. De zijgevels zijn voorzien van een pilastergeleding.
Aan de voorzijde (oostzijde) bevindt zich een lager uitgebouwd ingangsportaal onder een zadeldakje. Dubbele deuren met een verticale vensterstrook geven toegang tot het portaaltje. Boven de deuren is een driehoekig venster geplaatst. De linkerzijgevel van het portaaltje bevat een smal venster. In de top van de voorgevel zijn een gevelsteen met het opschrift "Eben Haezer" en eveneens een driehoekig venster aangebracht.
De linkerzijgevel heeft twee grote samengestelde vensters. De achtergevel en de rechterzijgevel zijn blind. Rechtsachter is een kleine aanbouw onder een plat dak met in de voorgevel een deur en een venster. In deze uitbouw bevindt zich een toiletruimte.
Het rechthoekige zaaltje van de voormalige zondagsschool kan door middel van een demontabele houten wand in twee ruimtes worden verdeeld. In het midden is een houten balk die bovenaan een tussenschot met een ventilatie-luik erin draagt. Tussen deze balk en de vloer kan de demontabele wand worden geplaatst. Voor en achter bevindt zich in de kap een ijzeren trekstang. De kap is voorzien van een houten beschot met daarboven een kleine vliering. In het portaaltje bevindt zich de gedenksteen, die oorspronkelijk tegen de achterwand van het zaaltje was geplaatst. De tekst luidt "God heeft den blijmoedigen gever lief. Dit gebouw is geschonken door gebroeders Schalij 21 juli 1932".
Waardering
Het gebouwtje is van algemeen belang vanwege architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een zondagsschool met detaillering in Amsterdamse Schooltrant, alsmede vanwege de gaafheid van hoofdvorm, interieur en detaillering. The former SUNDAY SCHOOL from 1932 is located at the foot of the dike road on the north side of the river Gein. Halfway along the ridge a wooden roof turret clad in zinc with a zinc spire is placed. The facades are constructed in brick in half-bond. The side facades are provided with pilaster articulation.
On the front side (east side) there is a lower entrance portico built out under a small gabled roof. Double doors with a vertical window strip give access to the small porch. Above the doors a triangular window is placed. The left side facade of the portico contains a narrow window. In the top of the front facade a foundation stone with the inscription "Eben Haezer" and also a triangular window are installed.
The left side facade has two large composite windows. The rear facade and the right side facade are blank. To the rear right is a small extension under a flat roof with a door and a window in the front facade. In this extension is a toilet room.
The rectangular hall of the former Sunday school can be divided into two spaces by means of a removable wooden partition.
