Inleiding
Voormalig GERECHTESGEBOUW (kantongerecht), gebouwd in 1912 naar ontwerp van hoofd- ingenieur-architect van Justitie W.C. Metselaar in een overwegend van de neorenaissance afgeleide bouwstijl.
Gelegen aan voorplein tesamen met reeds van Rijkswege beschermd voormalig Paleis van Justitie, Hamburgerstraat 28, verbonden via een 16de eeuwse poortje, en met 2 grote lindes en omsloten door reeds van Rijkswege beschermd hekwerk met fasces-symbolen.
Omschrijving
Kantongerechtsgebouw met L-vormige plattegrond, kelder en twee bouwlagen onder snijdende schilddaken. De hoeken van de voorgevel zijn uitgevoerd als risalieten. Voor-, rechter- en linkergevel opgetrokken in oranje-gele stengperssteen, strekken boven de vensters en banden uitgevoerd in oranje-rode strengperssteen. Voorts zijn de detaillering van de gevel en de trap uitgevoerd in hardsteen. De segmentbogen boven de vensters en fries zijn gedecoreerd met siermetselwerk. Boven de deur een hardstenen wapenplaat en tekstplaquette met het opschrift "KANTONGERECHT". Interieurplattegrond met gang aan de voorgevel, daarachter de vertrekken gelegen, trappenhuis aan noordzijde. Interieurafwerking ondermeer met de oorspronkelijke lambrisering, plafonds, gangen met glas-in-lood vensters, deuren, lijstwerk. Oorspronkelijke kap.

Gerechtsgebouw (kantongerecht) met poortje en voorplein met 2 lindes van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde als sober uitgevoerd voorbeeld van een van zijn vroege ontwerpen uit het grote oeuvre van rijksbouwmeester W.C. Metselaar. Tevens vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde als onderdeel van het Justitie-complex en bezit als zodanig ensemblewaarde.

Former COURTHOUSE (cantonal court), built in 1912 after a design by chief engineer-architect of the Department of Justice W.C. Metselaar in a building style predominantly derived from the neo-Renaissance.
Located at the forecourt together with the formerly state-protected Paleis van Justitie, Hamburgerstraat 28, connected via a 16th-century gate, and with 2 large linden trees and enclosed by formerly state-protected fencing with fasces symbols.
Description
Cantonal courthouse with an L-shaped floor plan, basement and two storeys under intersecting hipped roofs. The corners of the front facade are executed as risalts. Front, right and left facades built in orange-yellow brick, stretches above the windows and bands executed in orange-red brick. Furthermore, the detailing of the facade and the stairs are executed in ashlar. The segmental arches above the windows and frieze are decorated with ornamental brickwork. Above the door a stone heraldic plaque and text plaque with the inscription "KANTONGERECHT". Interior floor plan with a corridor at the front facade, behind it the rooms, staircase on the north side.
