Inleiding
Voormalig HOTEL, in 1904 tot CAFE-RESTAURANT "Bellevue" verbouwd, in opdracht van Heinekens Bierbrouwerij naar ontwerp van architect R. Rijksen in Jugendstil. Vervolgens in 1915 in stijl verbouwd door L. de Wolf met behoud van de functie.
Omschrijving
Onderkelderd pand, op rechthoekige plattegrond, drie bouwlagen en kap met plat en steekkappen, gedekt met zwarte tuiles du nord. Gevel opgetrokken in witte en gele strengperssteen, natuur- en kunststeen. Vier traveeën brede, licht gérende gevel aan het Vredenburg heeft tot afgeplatte topgevel opgetrokken tweede en derde travee. Drie traveeën brede gevel aan Drieharingstraat. Op de hoek een uit het gevelvlak oprijzende achthoekige toren met afsluitende lantaarn. Eerste bouwlaag met hoefijzervormige openingen. Tweede bouwlaag met aan Vredenburgzijde in linker travee tweezijdige erker, geplaatst in een rond venster; in samengevoegde middentraveeën halfronde erker, daarboven loggia met twee maal twee hoefijzerbogen met vernieuwd hekwerk. Gevel voorts met rechte, ronde en halfronde vensteropeningen in gekleurde baksteen, de vensters met glas-in-lood bovenlichten. Gevel aan Drieharingstraatzijde heeft vergelijkbare uitvoering als de gevel aan het Vredenburg met op de verdiepingen vensters met segmentboogvormige beëindiging. Aan beide zijden eenvoudige dakkapellen in dezelfde stijl. Hoektravee boven de begane grond afgerond, met op tweede en derde bouwlaag vernieuwde balkons, uitlopend in reeds genoemde hoektoren.
Waardering
Voormalig HOTEL en later tot café-restaurant verbouwd, van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde als markant voorbeeld van Jugendstil en als onderdeel van het oeuvre van architect R. Description
Undercellared building, on a rectangular plan, three storeys and a roof with flat and steep roofs, covered with black tiles du nord. Façade erected in white and yellow pressed brick, natural and artificial stone. Four bays wide, slightly oriole façade on the Vredenburg has the second and third bays built up to a cut-off gable. Three bays wide façade on Drieharingstraat. On the corner an octagonal tower rising from the façade plane with a finishing lantern. First storey with horseshoe-shaped openings. Second storey with on the Vredenburg side in the left bay two-sided oriole window, placed in a round window; in combined middle bays half-round oriole window, above it a loggia with two by two horseshoe arches with renewed ironwork. Façade furthermore with straight, round and half-round window openings in coloured brick, the windows with leadlight fanlights. Façade on the Drieharingstraat side has a comparable execution to the façade on the Vredenburg with on the upper storeys windows with a segmental arch ending.
