Inleiding
Voormalig SCHOOLGEBOUW, "MARNIXSCHOOL" met CONCIËRGEWONING, gebouwd in 1865 als Nederlands Hervormde Diaconie- Bewaarschool, naar ontwerp van architect C. Vermeys in een min of meer eclectische stijl. In 1901 verhoogd met een verdieping en uitgebreid met genoemde conciërgewoning (nr 89) gescheiden door een overbouwde steeg, uitgevoerd als travee, naar ontwerp van D. Kruyf.
Omschrijving
Pand op rechthoekige plattegrond met zes traveeën brede bakstenen voorgevel van het drie bouwlage tellende schoolgebouw en rechts daarvan het drie traveeën tellend, twee bouwlagen hoge conciërgewoning. De gevel van het schoolgebouw waarin eerste bouwlaag twee deuren en vier vensters met door een deelzuiltje verdeelde rondboogramen waarin een paar tienruits-ramen onder halfronde glas-in-lood bovenlicht, gescheiden door een kalf dat over de gevel zich als lijst voortzet en eindigt bij de zesde vensteras. Vleugeldeur in derde vensteras. Rechts dichtgebouwde steeg als zesde vensteras in deze voorgevel met begane gronds een paneeldeur en per verdieping één aan in de voorgevel voorkomende identieke vensters.
Boven de ronde boog van het venster begane gronds in de tweede en vierde vensteras, een plaat met opschrift: "DE VREEZE DES HEEREN IS HET BEGIN VAN DEN WETENSCHAP" en: "MARNIX STICHTING". Tweede bouwlaag met vijf omlijste vensters waarin zesruits stolpramen. Het venster in de zes vensteras is geplaatst onder een met siermetselwerk bezet boogveld. De derde bouwlaag als mezzanino uitgevoerd, bezit wel zes identieke vensters met stolpramen voorzien van een hekwerkje. Brede houten kroonlijst.
De geheel in baksteen opgetrokken onderwijzerswoning is twee bouwlagen hoog en sober van uitvoering. De vensters zijn ingevuld met T-schuiframen die alleen begane gronds onder een van siermetselwerk voorzien halfrond boogveld zijn geplaatst en rusten op een vensterdorpel die zich in de zesde vensteras van het schoolgebouw voortzet maar dan verspringt. De vensterdorpel annex cordonlijst waarop de venster op de verdieping rusten vinden deze aansluiting met genoemde zesde vensteras, niet. In het dakschild, belegd met Tuile du Nord, komt een moderne dakkapel voor.

To the right the built-up alleyway as sixth window axis in this front facade with at ground level a panel door and on each storey one window identical to those in the front facade.
Above the rounded arch of the ground floor window in the second and fourth window axes, a panel with the inscription: "THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF KNOWLEDGE" and: "MARNIX FOUNDATION". Second storey with five framed windows containing six-pane sash windows. The window in the six window axis is placed under a rounded arch field decorated with ornamental brickwork. The schoolmaster's residence, built entirely in brick, is two storeys high and sober in execution.
