Omschrijving
Inleiding
- als uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling op het platteland, m.n. van de volkshuisvesting;
- vanwege de typologische verwantschap met de voor de Friese Wouden karakteristieke keuterijtjes;
- vanwege het voor dit type woning opvallende materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek;

Description
Introduction
The WORKERS' DWELLING, typologically related to the smallholding farmhouses, was built north of Waskemeer in 1914 to the design of architect M.O. Meek, on commission of the Housing Foundation in Ooststellingwerf in Craft-traditional building manner. The dwelling formed part of some fifteen workers' dwellings built on commission of the foundation. Apart from number 19, the dwellings at Kruisweg 23 and 25 have been preserved, but these have been altered over time. The dwelling consists of a residential section and an integral barn section under a continuous ridge. The entrance, oriented to the west, is located in the northwestern recess. At the rear of the detached dwelling is a large grass field; at the front the dwelling is separated from the road by a small gate and a narrow strip of land.
Description
The workers' dwelling of the recess type is built on a rectangular floor plan. The gabled roof is covered with red corrugated Frisian tiles; on the ridge stands a built-in chimney. The stepped gable with overhanging roof edge has a tight wind brace and clad gable top.
The gables are built in brown brick (wall brick in strong lime mortar) with a roll course at the height of the plinth all around. The front gable is divided by two four-pane windows with six-pane fanlights; the gable top has two small attic windows. All windows are closed by a segmental arch in white and yellow ashlar. In the recesses are two living room windows with the same glazing bars as those in the front gable. The painted wooden front door in the recess is original. The side gables of the barn section are divided by small arched iron stable windows with a segmental arch in white and yellow brick and brick offsets.
Valuation
The workers' dwelling, built in 1914 in Waskemeer, is of cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:
- as an expression of a socio-economic development in the countryside, namely of workers' housing;
- due to the typological relationship with the smallholdings characteristic of the Frisian Wouden;
- due to the remarkable material use and ornamentation for this type of dwelling;
- due to the high degree of architectural integrity of the exterior.
