Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The RECREATIONAL HOUSE 'De Klokkebei' was built in 1929 south of Donkerbroek to the design of architect M.O. Meek. The client was the Gorter family of Donkerbroek. The cottage lies in woodland planted around the turn of the century and is oriented with its front gable to the west.
A long and narrow L-shaped path runs from the road to the house, which is hidden at the edge of the forest among shrubs and tall larch trees. The spacious garden is on the west side and borders the woods behind it. The garden covers 2.8 hectares of land and lies like a long strip oriented north-south. The original garden layout was undertaken by landscape architect Vroom from Glimmen. On the south side are a wooden bicycle shed with cottage and the old building shack, which was built with the intention of using it as a dependency. Both remain outside protection.
Description
The recreational cottage of one storey is built on a rectangular floor plan. The overhanging hipped roof is thatched with reed. On the ridge there is a chimney, in the roof slopes three roof dormers. The cottage is constructed in pine wood. The wood is painted outside and inside in dark brown and dark green. The wooden, forward-projecting plinth runs through the north, east and south gables and is terminated at the west gable at the entrance section. Here a three-step wooden staircase leads to the wooden front door with fanlight and sidelights. This is located under a canopy which rests on wooden columns on a "terrace-like" balustrade. All windows on the front and rear gables have horizontal glazing bars. On either side of the entrance are two windows with fanlight and each one shutter; above the door, in the vaulted top, is a two-light two-pane window. The rear gable is arranged by a large two-light four-pane window with shutters and a horizontal four-pane fanlight.
Above this window, in the vaulted top, is a two-light two-pane window. From the south corner of the front gable runs a horizontal window section across the entire south side gable into the rear gable. The window section in the south gable is not original but does not disturb the whole and rests on the original wooden cladding.
In the north side gable is located on the left, at plinth height, a garden door with shutters which, when closed, cover the entire door section. Above it is a horizontally positioned four-pane fanlight. A concrete three-step stoop has replaced the original wooden one.
Interior The layout and arrangement of the interior are almost original. In the rectangular hall is the staircase. In the bedroom on the right, the living room and the kitchen are wooden cupboards and two wooden benches. The wooden beam ceilings are original. Also present is the high wooden wainscoting. On the left in the room is a fireplace. In the veranda is still present the wooden furniture: a wooden bench that can be divided in two and a cupboard. In the kitchen is the cellar cupboard. The bedroom on the left of the entrance has been converted into a shower room. The attic is entirely in the original condition.
Valuation
The recreational dwelling, realized in 1929 in Donkerbroek, is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:
- as an expression of recreational development in the woodland area south of Donkerbroek,
- as an example of a recreational dwelling with material use characteristic of the period of its creation, namely wood and reed,
- because of the aesthetic quality of the design,
- because of the high degree of architectural integrity of the exterior,
- because of the high degree of integrity of the interior,
- because of the high degree of integrity of the garden layout,
- because of the rarity of such a cottage in the region,
- because of the location and visual integrity in the landscape.
