Inleiding
De WINKELWONING is gebouwd in 1907-1910 voor de koffiehandel firma Visser & Zonen die van 1792 tot 1922 bestond. Het pand bezit een van de laatste nog originele winkelpuien in het centrum van Sneek en is de enige nog gave winkelgevel van Nicolaas Molenaar, de architect die diverse winkelpanden in Sneek heeft ontworpen. Van het originele Neo-Renaissance winkelpand resteert slechts de fraaie gevel. De woningen en de winkel zijn in 1990-1991 ingrijpend gemoderniseerd en de originele structuur is niet meer intact. Tegen de achterzijde zijn een winkelmagazijn en een trappenhuis voor appartementen aangebouwd die buiten de bescherming van rijkswege vallen.
Omschrijving
De trapgevel met klauwstukken is opgetrokken in gele baksteen op een grijze hardstenen plint; grijs leien Frans schilddak met schubdekking; zinken nok met hoge pirons; in de flanken een dakkapelletje met zinken piron.
De begane grond bevat twee forse winkelpuien. De linker pui bestaat uit een venster en een toegangsdeur, de rechter pui uit twee vensters; alle zijn voorzien van een bovenlicht met glas-in-lood en plantfiguratie. De puien staan elk onder een segmentboog; hardstenen aanzetstenen. Boven de pui een houten luifel op klossen die aan de uiteinden wordt begrensd met gedecoreerde gevelstenen; een slang rondom een zwaard met vleugels met daarboven een urn.
Op de verdieping twee forse puien onder een getrapte segmentboog met glas-in-lood bovenlichten; hier tussen een gevelsteen met een engel en plantfiguratie en het opschrift 'opgericht 1794'. Hierboven een cordonlijst met centraal een venster (voorheen luik) dat geplaatst is in 1991, geflankeerd door tien nissen; boven de nissen een hardstenen lijst; boven het venster een dubbel venster (eveneens vervangen in 1991) met gemetseld deelzuiltje en onder een gemetselde archivolt een gevelsteen met het bouwjaar 1910; aan weerszijden een nis. De klauwstukken en pirons op de trapgevel zijn van hardsteen.

Introduction
The SHOP-DWELLING was built in 1907-1910 for the coffee merchant firm Visser & Zonen which existed from 1792 to 1922. The property possesses one of the last still original shop fronts in the centre of Sneek and is the only remaining intact shop façade by Nicolaas Molenaar, the architect who designed several shop buildings in Sneek. Of the original Neo-Renaissance shop building only the fine façade remains. The dwellings and the shop were thoroughly modernized in 1990-1991 and the original structure is no longer intact. Against the rear side a shop warehouse and a staircase hall for apartments have been added which fall outside national monument protection.
Description
The stepped gable with claw-stones is constructed in yellow brick on a grey sandstone plinth; grey slate French hipped roof with shingle covering; zinc ridge with high pirons; in the flanks a small dormer with zinc piron.
The ground floor contains two substantial shop fronts. The left opening consists of a window and an entrance door, the right opening of two windows; all are provided with a fanlight with leaded glass and plant motifs. The openings each stand under a segmental arch; sandstone impost stones. Above the opening a wooden canopy on blocks bounded at the ends with decorated carved stones; a serpent around a sword with wings with above it an urn.
On the first floor two substantial openings under a stepped segmental arch with leaded glass fanlights; between here a carved stone with an angel and plant motifs and the inscription 'established 1794'. Above this a cordon moulding with centrally a window (formerly shutter) that was installed in 1991, flanked by ten niches; above the niches a sandstone band; above the window a double window (also replaced in 1991) with brick partial pilaster and below a brick archivolt a carved stone with the construction year 1910; on either side a niche. The claw-stones and pirons on the stepped gable are of sandstone.
Valuation
The shop building by N. Molenaar on Grootzand is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical significance:
