Omschrijving
Inleiding
Strekbogen, ten dele in twee kleuren baksteen. Ankers. Hardstenen dorpels, lateien.

Description
Introduction
CLOSED FARMSTEAD in traditional-artisanal style, second half of 19th century. Situated as a free-standing structure against the southern slope of the Geleenbeekdal valley. The farmstead forms at its west side the termination of the linear settlement structure along the so-called Hegge. The agricultural outbuildings on an L-shaped plan on the south side of the closed farmstead, consisting of an open stalling with corrugated metal roof cladding on which at right angles are a number of concrete livestock barns, are EXCLUDED from protection.
Description The farmhouse has a square-plan form in its main layout. The dwelling occupies a large part of the west wing, has a complete basement, two storeys and an attic storey. The north wing is formed by the gatehouse, consisting of one storey with attic storey. The east wing, south wing and the remaining part of the west wing are formed by stable buildings of one storey with attic storey, varying in volume and height. The stable space of the west wing has a continuation on its south side outside the square-plan layout.
Dwelling, gatehouse and stable spaces are roofed with gabled roofs. The gabled roof of the gatehouse is asymmetrical; the roofs of the dwelling and the eastern stable wing lie somewhat recessed behind gable ends. The roofs are covered with Dutch concrete tiles; only the southern stable wing and the eastern roof plane of the stable space in the west wing have red pantiles.
The closed farmstead is constructed of brick, laid in irregular bond. Stretcher arches, partly in two colours of brick. Wall anchors. Sandstone thresholds, lintels. Rendered plinth, door and corner mouldings. The DWELLING in the WEST WING has corner pilasters in the west gable, interconnected by a decorative toothed frieze under the roof overhang; two window bays over two storeys, with the entrance positioned to the right of the gable centre. In each window bay two wooden T-windows with arched corners and decorative glazing in the fanlights, horizontal division of the glass panes. These windows have two-coloured stretcher arches with moulding profile, sandstone thresholds. The entrance is formed by a rectangular, worked wooden panelled door with fanlight in a rendered moulding. In the north gable this dwelling has, above a rendered plinth partly provided with imitation joints, two window bays. In each bay two wooden T-windows with shoulder arches and decorative glazing in the fanlights plus horizontal division of the glass panes, as well as a vertically divided wooden attic window with shoulder arches and horizontal division of the glass panes. These windows have two-coloured stretcher arches with moulding profile, sandstone thresholds. Brick weaving as gable end coping, terminating in a ridge chimney.
The eastern dwelling gable at the courtyard side, partly hidden from view by the gatehouse, is irregularly arranged. On the first storey a rectangular wooden door with fanlight and a rectangular window, both in a rendered moulding with keystone. On the second storey three small rectangular windows with leaded lights. High under the roof overhang three, now boarded-up, semicircular attic openings.
Against the south gable of the dwelling a reset STABLE VOLUME with a lower ridge height. In the west gable of this stall a recent rectangular stable door, beside which respectively a rectangular window frame with fanlight and a rectangular cross window. Under the roof overhang, above the fanlight window, a boarded-up window opening. In the southern gable end the stall has a semicircular attic opening. Against the east gable of the stall, in the corner with the south wing, an outbuilding of one storey under an asymmetrical gabled roof; at right angles against the west gable an outbuilding of one storey under gabled roof. The east gable of the stall is otherwise hidden from view by the south wing.
The NORTH WING is entirely occupied by the gatehouse. On the street side the north wing has a rendered plinth, partly provided with imitation joints and imitation rustication in the door mouldings; a double, basket-arch-shaped wooden carriage entrance with ornamented centre post, stretcher arch and roll moulding; a small, segmental-arch-shaped wooden door under a stretcher arch. On the courtyard side, beside the portal behind the carriage entrance, a storage room. In it a two-part rectangular wooden door in a segmental-arch moulding, on either side a rectangular wooden attic hatch.
The stable building in the EAST WING has on the street side a rendered plinth, partly provided with imitation joints; a considerable basket-arch-shaped, double wooden carriage entrance under a stretcher arch with roll moulding.
The east gable of the east wing is irregularly arranged: a round-arch-shaped wooden door, beside which a series of three segmental-arch-shaped six-pane stable windows. Above the door a semicircular, boarded-up attic opening. The southern gable end of the east wing has two identical attic openings and is otherwise hidden from view by the excluded stalling with corrugated metal roof and the continuous roof plane of the south wing. Under this roof plane a rectangular door opening. On the courtyard side the east wing has two segmental-arch-shaped wooden doors, between which a series of three segmental-arch-shaped six-pane windows. Alteration traces at the junction with the south gable, including a heavy and partly still visible wooden lintel. The SOUTH WING has in the remaining gable section on the south side a number of rectangular, two-part stable doors. One door opening is half-closed. On the courtyard side two segmental-arch-shaped, two-part wooden stable doors between which two segmental-arch-shaped six-pane windows.
Against the west gable of the dwelling wrought-iron FENCING has been placed.
The INTERIOR arrangement of the dwelling has remained virtually unchanged.
Assessment
The closed farmstead is of cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a regional economic and typological development.
The architectural-historical values are determined by the traditional building style, the aesthetic qualities of the farmhouse, the use of materials and the simple ornamentation.
There is also a coherence between the design of the interior and the arrangement of the interior.
The farmstead is of importance because of its situation in the landscape and as such connected with the development of the region, is of importance for the appearance of the region and possesses because of its situation a historical-spatial relationship with the Geleenbeekdal valley.
The farmstead is a well-preserved specimen of a Limburgian closed farmstead from the mid-nineteenth century, of great importance for the visual integrity of the surrounding landscape as well as for the integrity of the linear settlement structure along the Hegge.
Moreover, because of the region-specific character of the farmstead type, one can speak from a national perspective of a reasonable supra-regional rarity value.
