HERENHUIS in 1895 gebouwd in Neo-Renaissance stijl met Neo-Gotische detaillering naar ontwerp van de architect J. van Gils.
N.B. De achtergevel is gewijzigd in 1950.
Omschrijving:
Het half vrijstaande herenhuis met een rechthoekige plattegrond is boven een natuurstenen rustica plint opgetrokken in rode baksteen met speklagen en bestaat uit drie verdiepingen en een kapverdieping onder een zadeldak. De (schuif)vensters hebben houten kozijnen. De gevel van de begane grond is bekleed met natuursteen. Tussen de verdiepingen bevinden zich natuurstenen cordonlijsten. Links op de begane grond bevindt zich de geprofileerde houten voordeur met twee kleine vensters en smeedijzeren beslag onder een natuurstenen ezelsrugboog. Rechts van de ingang twee gekoppelde rondboogvensters. Op de eerste verdieping bevindt zich in het midden een natuurstenen erker waarop een decoratief smeedijzeren balkonhek. Onder de vensters van de erker bevinden zich natuurstenen reliëfs. In de buitenste twee hiervan staat de spreuk "oost west" - "thuis best". Aan weerszijden van de erker twee vensters onder twee risalerende ontlastingsbogen, waarbij in de boogvelden schilderingen zijn aangebracht op een gepleisterde ondergrond.
Op de tweede verdieping drie vensters, met voor het middelste een balkon. Boven de vensters een risalerend fries van driepas ontlastingsbogen met in de boogvelden van de buitenste vensters nog de oorspronkelijke schilderingen, met wapenschildjes en bloemmotieven. Tussen de ontlastingsbogen bevinden zich decoratief bewerkte muurankers. De kapverdieping, met trapgevel, bevat een drielichtvenster onder driepas rollagen. Het huis is (linksboven de entree) gesigneerd met: "Jac. van Gils, Architect, 1895". In de zijgevel speklagen van gele baksteen en onder de daklijst een geometrische versiering van gele baksteen en een tandlijst. In het interieur zijn van belang de representatieve hal en het trappehuis.

Herenhuis, ontworpen in Neo-Renaissance stijl met Neo-Gotische detaillering van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde en als onderdeel van de historische straatwand van één van Rotterdams voornaamste singels. Description:
The semi-detached town house with a rectangular plan is built above a natural stone rusticated plinth in red brick with bands of yellow brick and consists of three storeys and a roof storey beneath a gabled roof. The (sash) windows have wooden frames. The facade of the ground floor is faced with natural stone. Between the storeys are located natural stone band mouldings. On the left on the ground floor is situated the profiled wooden front door with two small windows and wrought-iron fittings beneath a natural stone arched molding. To the right of the entrance two coupled round-arched windows. On the first floor in the centre is a natural stone oriel upon which a decorative wrought-iron balcony rail. Below the windows of the oriel are natural stone reliefs. In the outer two of these stands the saying "east west" - "home best". On either side of the oriel two windows beneath two risalant relieving arches, whereby paintings are applied in the arch fields on a plastered background.
On the second floor three windows, with for the middle one a balcony. Above the windows a risalant frieze of trefoil relieving arches with in the arch fields of the outer windows still the original paintings, with heraldic shields and flower motifs. Between the relieving arches are decoratively worked wall anchors. The roof storey, with stepped gable, contains a three-light window beneath trefoil roller courses. The house is signed (left above the entrance) with: "Jac. van Gils, Architect, 1895". In the side facade bands of yellow brick and below the roof line a geometric decoration of yellow brick and a dentil course. In the interior of importance are the representative hall and the stairwell.
Valuation:
Town house, designed in Neo-Renaissance style with Neo-Gothic detailing of general importance due to architectural-historical value and as part of the historical street facade of one of Rotterdam's principal canals. Of particular importance also within the oeuvre of the architect J. van Gils.
