Inleiding
In Koloniale stijl in 1901 in opdracht van de mijn Laura en Vereeniging gebouwde directeurswoning. De directeurswoning is gebouwd in een geaccidenteerd terrein met een parkachtige tuin.
De bewoner van de villa ir. R. Pierre wenste een soortgelijke villa als de villa die hij bewoonde tijdens zijn werk in Nederlands-Indië op het eiland Sumatra.
Omschrijving
De directeurswoning met rechthoekig grondplan telt twee bouwlagen, een dakverdieping en souterrain en wordt afgedekt met een schilddak met dakschild met leien. Dakkapel met koepeldakje. Dakkapellen en nokpionnen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen voorzien van een witte pleisterlaag en stucwerk.
Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren, deels met segmentboogvormige-deels met rondboogvormige en rechthoekige bovenlichten. Bovenlichten met kleine roedeverdeling. Keldervensters met decoratief smeedijzeren traliewerk Asymmetrische indeling voorgevel. Linkerdeel voorgevel uitlopend in een in- en uitgezwenkte topgevel met rijke stucwerk decoraties o.a. boven de deur, de balkondeuren en in de topgevel. Deze decoraties symboliseren de mijnarbeid.
In dit geveldeel in de eerste bouwlaag een brede luifel rustend op vier kolommen met hierop een balkon met balustrade. Brede toegangstrap met bakstenen leuning voorzien van een pleisterlaag.
Rechterdeel voorgevel in de eerste bouwlaag een rechthoekig houten venster met een segmentboogvormig bovenlicht en in de tweede bouwlaag een loggia met segmentbogen. Dit geveldeel uitlopend in een torenachtig geveldeel bekroond met een koepeldak met hierop een lantaarn.
Venster- en deurlateien met decoratieve stucwerk ornamenten.
Middendeel voorgevel met terras met balustrade.
Aan de linkerzijgevel een uitbouw in twee bouwlagen met een plat dak. Vensters met segmentboogvormige bovenlichten met roedeverdeling.
Indeling interieur in beperkte mate in tact hetgeen blijkt uit de situering van hal, trappenhuis en kamers.
Aan de achtergevel van de villa een forse aanbouw uit 1937 in drie bouwlagen met plat dak.
De parkachtige tuin met paden, gazons en boomgroepen wordt aan de zijde van de Torenstraat afgesloten door een tuinmuur in baksteen voorzien van een gecementeerde afdeklaag. Authentieke smeedijzeren poort tussen vier baksteen kolommen met gecementeerde afdeklaag.
Waardering
De directeurswoning aan de Torenstraat gebouwd in opdracht van de directie van de mijn Laura en Vereeniging is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal economische en typologische ontwikkeling. Het object heeft betekenis voor de geschiedenis van de huisvesting: het geldt als architectonische manifestatie van het notabele wonen in de voormalige mijnstreek en brengt dit in zijn uitwendige verschijningsvorm en inwendige dispositie eenduidig tot uitdrukking.
