Inleiding
De OPHAALBRUG over de Luts te Balk is in 1929 geconstrueerd. De brug is gelegen aan de rand van het oude deel van Balk en vormt een verbinding tussen enerzijds het kruispunt tussen de Gaaikemastraat, de Wilhelminastraat en de van Swinderenstraat en anderzijds het kruispunt tussen het Westein, de Erasmusstraat en de Raadhuisstraat. De brug dankt zijn naam aan het ertegenover gelegen Hotel Teernstra.
Omschrijving
Gietijzeren ophaalbrug van het Amsterdamse type, bestaande uit een geklonken, open vakwerkconstructie met vrijstaande hameien met kruisschoren en kwadranten voor de beweging van de brug. Balans en scharnieren zijn met plaatstaal bekleed. Geasfalteerd houten brugdek met ijzeren leuning. De landhoofden zijn opgetrokken in gele baksteen en afgezet met een borstwering bestaande uit drie penanten met betonnen mutsen, waartussen ijzeren leuningen. Het metselwerk van de landhoofden gaat over in dat van de kade.

De Teernstrabrug uit 1929 over de Luts te Balk is van algemeen techniekhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig belang:

Introduction
The DRAWBRIDGE over the Luts in Balk was constructed in 1929. The bridge is located at the edge of the old part of Balk and forms a connection between on the one hand the junction between Gaaikemastraat, Wilhelminastraat and van Swinderenstraat and on the other hand the junction between Westein, Erasmusstraat and Raadhuisstraat. The bridge takes its name from the Hotel Teernstra opposite it.
Description
Cast-iron drawbridge of the Amsterdam type, consisting of a riveted, open lattice structure with free-standing vertical members with cross-bracing and quadrants for the movement of the bridge. Balances and hinges are clad with sheet steel. Asphalted wooden bridge deck with iron railing. The abutments are built of yellow brick and trimmed with a parapet consisting of three pendants with concrete caps, between which are iron railings. The brickwork of the abutments merges with that of the quay.
