Inleiding
Het REDDINGBOOTHUIS van het Reddingsstation te Hindeloopen, dat deel uitmaakt van de "Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij", is in 1911 gebouwd door Tjeerd Diekkes uit Hindeloopen. De KNRM is opgericht met het doel om hulp te verlenen aan zeelieden die voor de Nederlandse kust voeren en in gevaar verkeerden. In eerste instantie was de reddingsmaatschappij actief langs de kust van de Noordzee, pas tegen het begin van de 20ste eeuw werd het reddingswerk ook langs de Wadden- en Zuiderzeekust verricht. Hindeloopen was één van de eerste reddingsstations langs de Zuiderzeekust. Het boothuis met helling voor de roei-reddingsvlet is op de dijk gebouwd. De eerste redding vond pas plaats in 1919. In 1941 is de roei-reddingsboot vervangen door een motor-reddingsboot. Na de afsluiting van de Zuiderzee is het IJsselmeer langzamerhand een zeer geliefd watersportgebied geworden, dat heeft tot gevolg dat er nog steeds reddingswerk wordt verricht. Het boothuis staat nog op de oorspronkelijke plek, aan de waterkant van de dijk aan de noordoostzijde van het dorp, ten zuiden van de oude haven en is naar het zuidoosten gericht. Zowel het exterieur als het interieur verkeert, op een klein aantal aanpassingen na, in oorspronkelijke staat. Van de betonnen helling is alleen een restant bij het water overgebleven. Het huis en de fundering zijn recent opgeknapt. Het boothuis is nu ingericht als een klein museum, waar oud materiaal, oude benodigdheden en gereedschap opgesteld staan.
Omschrijving
Het reddingsboothuis is opgetrokken uit hout, heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en wordt gedekt door een zadeldak met zwarte geglazuurde gegolfde Friese pannen. De onderzijde steunt aan de zuidzijde op het dijkprofiel en aan de waterkantzijde op gemetselde vierkante palen op het dijklichaam. De ruimte tussen de onderzijde en de dijk wordt gevuld door vijf houten planken die horizontaal langs iedere zijde zijn geplaatst. Het houten plateau voor de ingang is vernieuwd. De voorgevel heeft over de gehele breedte dubbele houten deuren. In de top, die wordt omsloten door een vrij brede, eenvoudige windveer met opvallende makelaar en ijzeren windstrekenwijzer, zit een rond raam met radiale indeling. De zijgevels zijn blind. Tegen de naar het zuiden gerichte zijgevel is over de gehele lengte een houten bankje geplaatst. De achtergevel heeft twee kleine rechthoekige ramen. Ook de geveltop aan achterzijde heeft een windveer met makelaar. Het INTERIEUR is voor een groot deel origineel: de wanden -met kledinghangplaats en nummer voor iedere schipper-, de dakconstructie en de vloer, alle van hout, zijn op een paar details na oorspronkelijk. Het glijsysteem voor de boot is echter verdwenen.

The LIFEBOAT STATION HOUSE of the Rescue Station at Hindeloopen, which forms part of the "Royal Dutch Lifeboat Society", was built in 1911 by Tjeerd Diekkes from Hindeloopen. The lifeboat station house is built of wood, has a rectangular floor plan and is covered by a gabled roof with black glazed corrugated Frisian tiles. The underside is supported on the south side by the dike profile and on the water side by plastered square posts on the dike body. The space between the underside and the dike is filled by five wooden planks placed horizontally along each side. The wooden platform for the entrance has been renewed. The front facade has double wooden doors along its entire width. At the top, which is enclosed by a relatively broad, simple weathervane with striking cresting and iron weathervane indicator, there is a round window with radial glazing bars. The side gables are blind. Against the south-facing side gable, a wooden bench has been placed along the entire length. The rear gable has two small rectangular windows.
