The register's description

- wegens de ouderdom;

- wegens het langgerekte 18de-eeuwse hoofdgebouw met gaaf bewaard exterieur in sobere classicistische stijl;

- wegens de oorspronkelijke ruimte-indeling en aankleding van het interieur;

- wegens de gaaf bewaarde middeleeuwse kelders, als restant van het abdijcomplex;

- wegens de kenmerkende ligging binnen de historische tuin- en parkaanleg;

Description component 1: MAIN BUILDING (Mariënwaerdt).

The house constructed on a T-shaped ground plan in Classical style was built in four phases from 1734 until circa 1790. The building constructed of red brick is composed of an elongated front house, consisting of a ground floor and a piano nobile under a roof covered with tiles with a hipped profile (it was originally intended that another storey would be built on top) and a block-shaped white-plastered rear section of a basement and one storey under a surrounding roof with valley gutters and provided with roof dormers. The middle and also oldest part of three bays is founded on the medieval cellars with cross-ribbed vaults (the refectory) as the visibly surviving remnant of the abbey complex. Multi-light windows, some with external blinds, have been installed in the facades.

The symmetrically arranged front facade, thirteen bays wide, has corner risalits with rusticated hardstone pilasters and a central risalit of three bays with centrally the framed double entrance door. The risalit is crowned by a wooden pediment. The horizontality of the front facade is emphasized by the plinth, cornice band and cornice. On the ground floor are nine-light windows and on the upper floor fifteen-light windows. The rear facades on both sides of the rear house contain two bays with multi-light windows and a round window.

Against the south facade of the block-shaped rear house an extended entrance structure of two storeys with rounded corners under a flat roof. In the extension is the framed double entrance door (main entrance) with above it a framed round-arched window with Gothic tracery. In the short side facades a small-paned window and a lancet window. On both sides of the extension two window bays with multi-light windows.

In the INTERIOR, noteworthy among others are the central square hall with 18th-century stucco and framed wide doors with oak woodwork; the gentleman's room with marble fireplace and overdoor panels; the salon with walls divided by pilasters and stucco. Lower storey with 12th-century cross-ribbed vaults, remains of the refectory of the monastery.
