The register's description

Onderdeel 5: OOSTELIJK BOUWHUIS.

Omschrijving

Waardering

Het OOSTELIJK BOUWHUIS is van algemeen belang:

- vanwege de ouderdom;

- als karakteristieke afsluiting van het voorplein;

- vanwege de 18de-eeuwse schuilkapel in het interieur (uniek voor de Veluwe);

- vanwege de ensemblewaarde;

Component 5: EASTERN OFFICE BUILDING.

Description

The east side of the forecourt is closed off by a brick office building from 1792 as an identical counterpart of the office building that closes the forecourt on the west side. The building on a rectangular ground plan consists of one-and-a-half storeys beneath a hipped roof covered with smoked Dutch tiles with four brick chimneys. The symmetrically arranged front facade consists of nine bays with centrally the projecting entrance section crowned by a pediment. The entrance section is formed by a double entrance door with rectangular fanlight provided with a diamond-pattern glazing bars set in a frame of pilasters beneath a cornice. In the second and eighth bay is an arched gate with double carriage doors and sandstone stop stones. The remaining bays contain multi-pane sash windows with half shutters on the ground floor and multi-pane casement windows on the upper storey. The gabled north facade has three window axes with centrally an entrance door with rectangular fanlight flanked by multi-pane windows with half shutters and on the upper storey three multi-pane casement windows. The blind south facade is extended with a brick wall with half-hipped roof and provided with an arched gate. The partly sloping rear facade has a regular arrangement of doors and multi-pane windows.

In the INTERIOR a small hidden chapel (behind sham shutters) from 1792 with a richly decorated, fine Baroque altar and on either side thereof a door decorated with garlands and set in a frame in the transitional style between Louis XV and Louis XVI, panelling and benches in simple forms from the early nineteenth century. The chapel served until 1843.

Valuation

The EASTERN OFFICE BUILDING is of general significance:

- on account of its age;

- as a characteristic closure of the forecourt;

- on account of the 18th-century hidden chapel in the interior (unique for the Veluwe);

- on account of its ensemble value;

- on account of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the country estate.
