Omschrijving
Onderdeel 2: HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG.
Omschrijving
- vanwege de gaaf bewaarde 18de-eeuwse classiscistische opzet van de aanleg met een middenas en een lanenstelsel;
- vanwege de restanten van de aanleg van L. Springer uit 1907;
- vanwege het belang van de aanleg voor de geschiedenis van de tuin- en landschapsarchitectuur;

Description
Component 2: HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK DESIGN.
Description
The structure of the well-preserved formal layout from circa 1800 is determined by various oak avenues, which are projected virtually perpendicular to the Hoofdweg and connected to each other by the Molenallee, which encompasses the entire property. From the Hoofdweg, Ter Horst is accessed by means of an oak avenue, which runs on the southwest side of the house and the beech wood, ending at the Eerbeeksedijk; this avenue has a length of 530 metres, of which the route has become unclear. Across the access avenue, parallel to the Hoofdweg, lies an elongated pond consisting of three terraced ponds, which connect to the moat system around the castle. Over the pond a view of the church of Loenen was projected, which is now overgrown. Upon the sale in 1924 the ponds were recommended for trout farming, nowadays they are partially used as a timber watering place. The core of the country estate is formed by the 18th-century Neoclassical layout of a moated main building with two service houses which enclose a forecourt paved with Veluwe field stones. From the axis of the house a broad vista runs across the forecourt between linden avenues towards the grassland bordered by rising vegetation on the far side of the Hoofdweg. On the south and east sides of the house is a small-scale layout of various compartments, for which the garden architect L. Springer made the design in 1907 in neo-formal (mixed) style: on the east side in front of the orangery lies the flower garden, now grass parterre, of which only the path structure remains, this garden is bounded on the east side by a wooden fence behind which the kitchen garden with greenhouse and cold frames and the orchard are situated. In the extension of the flower garden lies an overgrown elongated woodland parcel with to its left a geometric layout of which now the overgrown shrubs and a yew group remain. Behind this layout stretches a beech wood (called Horsterbos) extending to the Loenensche Beek and the Molenallee. The northern woodland edge is terminated in the form of an arc as the sole landscape element of the layout. The surroundings of Ter Horst consist of a layered landscape of alternating grasslands with ditches, fields, hedgerows and copses.
Valuation
The HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK DESIGN belonging to the country estate Ter Horst is of general importance:
- on account of the well-preserved 18th-century Neoclassical layout of the design with a middle axis and an avenue system;
- on account of the remains of the layout by L. Springer from 1907;
- on account of the importance of the layout for the history of garden and landscape architecture;
- on account of the functional-spatial coherence with the other components of the country estate.
