Inleiding
In overhoekse situering bij de zuidwestelijke entree van het Kenaupark en als onderdeel van dit villapark gebouwde DUBBELE VILLA in eclectische trant. Het Kenaupark ontstond vanaf 1865 als Haarlems villapark naar stedebouwkundig ontwerp van J.D. Zocher jr. in Engelse landschapsstijl. Het pand behoort tot de bouwstroom die tussen 1867 en 1880 resulteerde in de realisering van twaalf vrijstaande villa's, vier dubbele villa's en twee aaneengesloten bouwblokken die respectievelijk negen en vier herenhuizen bevatten.
Omschrijving
Symmetrisch opgezette dubbele villa op rechthoekig grondplan en bestaande uit souterrain, bel étage, verdieping en kapverdieping. Het rechthoekige pand heeft een gevelbreedte van zes vensterassen, de beide zijgevels zijn ter breedte van drie vensterassen. Tegen elke zijgevel is een rechthoekige verdiepingloze aanbouw ter breedte van één vensteras geplaatst. Boven het rondomgaand hoofdgestel bevindt zich een gebroken schilddak met rode Hollandse pan op de onderste dakvlakken en zink aan de bovenzijde. In de onderste dakvlakken aan de voorzijde bevinden zich twee dakkapellen, respectievelijk boven de tweede en vijfde vensteras. De voorgevel wordt ter hoogte van deze vensterassen geleed door risalieten. Ter hoogte van de verdieping heeft elke risaliet een op twee hermen rustend balkon met rijk gedecoreede balustrade.
De dubbele villa is opgetrokken in witgepleisterde baksteen binnen een structuur van cordonlijsten en geabstraheerde pilasters. Het pleisterwerk van de tussenliggende muurvlakkken is behandeld alsof blokken natuursteen zijn gestapeld. De schuifvensters zijn merendeels voorzien van T-ramen, de balkons zijn bereikbaar via dubbel openslaande deuren die eveneens T-vormig zijn. In de op maaiveldhoogte gelegen ingangen bevinden zich paneeldeuren met ijzeren vensterharnassen.
De erfafscheiding bestaat aan de straatzijde uit een ijzeren tuinhek op een lage muur in rode baksteen.
Waardering
De in hoofdvorm en detaillering gaaf bewaard gebleven dubbele villa is van algemeen belang vanuit cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch oogpunt alsook vanwege de ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van de villabebebouwing die in relatie tot de landschappelijke aanleg van het Kenaupark tot stand kwam.

DOUBLE VILLA in eclectic style built in a corner position at the southwestern entrance of Kenaupark and as part of this villa park. Kenaupark came into being from 1865 as Haarlem's villa park according to the urban design of J.D. Zocher jr. in English landscape style. The property belongs to the building wave that between 1867 and 1880 resulted in the realisation of twelve detached villas, four double villas and two adjoining building blocks containing respectively nine and four townhouses.
Description
Symmetrically arranged double villa on rectangular ground plan and consisting of basement, bel étage, first storey and attic storey. The rectangular property has a facade width of six window bays, both side facades are three window bays wide. Against each side facade is a rectangular single-storey extension placed the width of one window bay. Above the continuous main cornice is a broken hipped roof with red Dutch tile on the lower roof planes and zinc on the upper side. In the lower roof planes at the front are two roof dormers, respectively above the second and fifth window bays. The front facade is articulated at the height of these window bays by risalits. At the height of the first storey each risalit has a balcony resting on two herms with richly decorated balustrade.
The double villa is constructed in whitewashed brick within a structure of cordon lines and abstracted pilasters. The plasterwork of the intervening wall surfaces is treated as if blocks of natural stone are stacked. The sash windows are mostly provided with T-windows, the balconies are accessible via double hinged doors which are likewise T-shaped. In the entrances located at ground level are panelled doors with iron window fastenings.
The boundary fencing consists on the street side of an iron garden fence on a low wall in red brick.
Valuation
The double villa, which has been preserved intact in its main form and detailing, is of general significance from a cultural-historical and architectural-historical perspective as well as because of its ensemble value as part of the villa development that came into being in relation to the landscape arrangement of Kenaupark.
