Inleiding
WOONHUIS uit 1870, gebouwd naar ontwerp van A. van der Steur in Eclectische trant. Het pand is gebouwd in opdracht van verzekeringsmaatschappij "De Vrijwillige Liefde Beurs", die is opgericht in 1719. Het pand is gesitueerd in de gesloten gevelwand van de Korte Begijnestraat en behoort bij het naastgelegen pand Korte Begijnestraat 16 (rijksmonumentnummer 19478).
Omschrijving
Het pand telt één bouwlaag en heeft een in bruine baksteen opgetrokken voorgevel met natuurstenen plint en verhoogde middenpartij, voorzien van puntgevel met overstekende geprofileerde daklijst. In het midden van de gevel een dubbel venster met houten geprofileerd deelzuiltje en spiegelboogvormige bovenlichten met glas-in-loodramen. Boven de vensterpartij bevindt zich een brede lijst, uitgevoerd als hoofdgestel met klein rondboogje in het midden van de kroonlijst. Op de rechthoekige gevelsteen daarboven staat het opschrift: 'Begrafenis Bos " De Vrijwillige Liefde Beurs" '. Aan weerszijden risalerende geveldelen met links een brede paneeldeur en rechts een venster met spiegelboogvormige bovenlichten. In het bovenlicht boven de deur is een lantaarn opgenomen. Hierboven elk een jaartalsteen: links 1719 en rechts 1870, verwijzend naar de stichting van de verzekeringsmaatschappij en het bouwjaar. DWELLING HOUSE from 1870, built after a design by A. van der Steur in Eclectic style. Description
The building comprises one storey and has a front facade constructed in brown brickwork with natural stone plinth and raised central section, featuring a pointed gable with overhanging moulded cornice. In the centre of the facade is a double window with wooden moulded dividing pilaster and mirrored arch-shaped fanlights with leaded glass windows. Above the window section is a broad moulding, executed as an architrave with small round arch in the centre of the cornice. On the rectangular facade stone above is the inscription: 'Begrafenis Bos " De Vrijwillige Liefde Beurs" '. On either side projecting facade sections with on the left a broad panelled door and on the right a window with mirrored arch-shaped fanlights. In the fanlight above the door is a lantern incorporated. Above each a date stone: on the left 1719 and on the right 1870, referring to the foundation of the insurance company and the year of construction. The projecting sections are closed off by broad cornice mouldings, executed as architraves with protruding moulded cornices. The pointed gable of the central section is provided with a circular gable opening and a natural stone frieze. The cornice is crowned by three ornaments.
