Description
Introduction
CROSS-HOUSE FARMHOUSE WITH SUMMER HOUSE located on the south side of the Utrechtseweg. The farmhouse dates from circa 1883. The farmhouse is set back slightly from the road. Five tall deciduous trees stand on the property boundary. The client in 1883 was one Heilsloot, the father-in-law of the first occupant, Albertus Pronk. The foundation stone "laid by Johannes Martinus Pronk, aged 1 year on 18 May 1883" is present in the facade of the summer house.
N.B. The modern barn to the right (west) on the plot is not covered by the protection, just like all other outbuildings on the plot.
N.B. The owner did not wish to cooperate with the MSP research and did not grant permission to enter the plot. The description and assessment are therefore based on the MIP data and on what was visible and assessable from the public road.
Description
The cross-house farmhouse has a T-shaped plan. The transversely positioned dwelling house is cellared and contains furthermore one storey under a hipped roof with ridgeline parallel to the Utrechtseweg. On the roof of the cross-house lie flat black roof tiles of an uncommon type, flat tiles with a diamond-shaped raised section in the middle of the tile. Two square ridge irons stand on the ridge corners. The southern roof slope is cut through by a square brick chimney. The barn section has a rectangular ground plan and consists of one storey under a gabled roof, covered with black smoored Dutch tiles. The farmhouse is built in machine-made red brick, laid in Flemish bond, above a cemented plinth. The joints are struck. In various places in the brickwork the projecting ends of the ornamental wall anchors are visible by which the beam layers are anchored in the walls. Unless otherwise stated, the window bays contain a rectangular wooden six-pane sash window with wooden sill.
The symmetrically arranged front facade of the cross-house (N) has a width of four window bays and contains on each bay a sash window. Below the two central windows are two rectangular wooden cellar windows with iron grilles. The cellar windows below the two outer windows are filled in. The facade is finished with a continuous gutter on profiled wooden consoles. On the central bay a wooden roof dormer with double casement window is inserted in the roof. The roof dormer has wooden corner braces and a crowning pediment under an inset gabled roof.
The left side facade (E) of the cross-house contains a cellar window as in the front facade. The left side facade of the rear section with ridgeline perpendicular to the road contains in the northern part two sash windows. The summer house is placed against the remainder of this facade.
The right side facade (W) of the cross-house contains a cellar window as in the front facade. The right side facade of the rear section with ridgeline perpendicular to the road contains among other things an arched iron barn window.
The summer house is built over the full length against the eastern facade of the barn. The summer house has a rectangular ground plan and consists of one storey under a gabled roof with black Dutch tiles and ridgeline perpendicular to the road.
The front facade of the summer house (N) has a width of three window bays and contains on the two left bays two sash windows with wooden shutters and on the right bay the entrance, consisting of a rectangular panelled door with cast-iron grille and rectangular fanlight with tree of life. In the upper storey on the central bay is a herringbone-arched window. The facade is finished by a roof overhang with carved bargeboards.
The left side facade of the summer house (E) has in the living section some non-original windows. The rear section contains among other things some arched iron barn windows. The facade is finished by a profiled wooden gutter moulding on consoles.
Assessment
The cross-house farmhouse with summer house is of general importance from a cultural-historical and architectural point of view as a well-preserved example of agricultural architecture from the fourth quarter of the 19th century in the North Holland countryside. Furthermore, the farmhouse has situational value through its prominent urban planning position, on the one hand at a bend of the Vecht, on the other hand in the open polder land of the Aetsveldse polder.
