Omschrijving complexonderdeel 1
De WATERTOREN gebouwd in 1906 in neorenaissance- en art nouveautrant naar ontwerp van J. Schotel, staat op een lichte aangeaarde verhoging, waarin zich een voormalige waterkelder bevindt. De ronde toren is opgebouwd uit drie geledingen en is in totaal 28 meter hoog. De doorsnede bedraagt op de begane grond 5.70 meter en bovenin, waar zich het waterreservoir bevond, 7.10 meter. De toren is opgebouwd uit rode, bruine en gele rijnsteen in staand verband met uitzondering van de onderste geleding, die een metselverband van louter koppen vertoont. Op architectonisch en constructief belangrijke punten is natuursteen toegepast. De verschillende geledingen worden door uitkragende banden van contrasterend metselwerk van elkaar gescheiden.
De ingang in de eerste geleding bevindt zich binnen een ondiep uitgebouwd portaal onder een zadeldakje en is te bereiken via een trap met de laatste drie treden in natuursteen. De topgevel van het portaal is voorzien van natuurstenen aanzetstenen en een tuitvormige bekroning gedecoreerd met florale motieven. De dubbele deur heeft gietijzeren deurroosters. Recht tegenover de ingang bevindt zich een rechthoekig venster.
In de tweede geleding zijn, in hoogte verspringend in totaal tien rechthoekige vensters aangebracht onder een natuurstenen latei. Opvallend is dat het glas koud in het metselwerk is gezet zonder houten of stalen kozijn.
De derde overkragende geleding in voornamelijk gele rijnsteen heeft tien hoge smalle keperboogvormige vensters, die naar binnen klapbaar zijn en voorzien zijn van een natuurstenen lekdorpel onder het venster. De geleding wordt afgesloten door kantelen waaronder een rondboog fries. De aanzet tot deze overkragende geleding is opgebouwd uit een ijzeren raamwerk met een baksteenvulling. Op het vlakke dak achter de kantelen is een smeedijzeren windvaan geplaatst.
Aan de binnenzijde is de toren gepleisterd. Op de begane grond bevindt zich een klinkervloer waarin een gietijzeren putdeksel met het opschrift : 'BOPP & Reuther Mannheim-Waldhof'. De trappen in de watertoren zijn van hout. In de bovenste geleding bevindt zich een betonnen vloer en plafond met een centrale stalen kolom en waaiervormige draagconstructie. Via een mangat is het dak te betreden.

The WATER TOWER built in 1906 in neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau style to the design of J. Schotel, stands on a slight raised earthed base, within which a former water cellar is located. The round tower is constructed in three storeys and is in total 28 metres high. The cross-section measures 5.70 metres on the ground floor and at the top, where the water reservoir was located, 7.10 metres. The tower is constructed of red, brown and yellow Rhine stone in stretcher bond with the exception of the lowest storey, which shows a bond of header bricks only. Natural stone has been applied at architecturally and structurally important points. The various storeys are separated from each other by projecting bands of contrasting brickwork.
The entrance in the first storey is located within a shallow projecting portal under a small saddle roof and is accessible via a flight of steps with the last three steps in natural stone. The spout gable of the portal is provided with natural stone quoins and a spout-shaped crown decorated with floral motifs. The double door has cast-iron door grilles. Directly opposite the entrance is a rectangular window.
In the second storey, a total of ten rectangular windows are arranged in staggered heights under a natural stone lintel. It is notable that the glass has been set cold in the brickwork without wooden or steel frames.
The third projecting storey in mainly yellow Rhine stone has ten tall narrow corbelled arch-shaped windows that are hinged inward and are provided with a natural stone drip edge below the window. The storey is terminated by crenellations beneath which is a round-arch frieze. The springing of this projecting storey is constructed of an iron framework with brick infilling. On the flat roof behind the crenellations is a wrought-iron weathervane.
On the inside the tower is plastered. On the ground floor there is a clinker floor in which a cast-iron cover plate with the inscription: 'BOPP & Reuther Mannheim-Waldhof'. The stairs in the water tower are of wood. In the upper storey there is a concrete floor and ceiling with a central steel column and fan-shaped load-bearing structure. The roof can be accessed via a manhole.
