Inleiding
WOONHUIS in Eclectische trant dat in 1866 is gebouwd in opdracht van Mr. Adrianus Eldering Ferf, de toenmalige eigenaar en bewoner van Glinstrastate, voor zijn zoon Mr. Horatius Ferf. Getuige de gevelsteen is de eerste steen gelegd door zijn jongere broers en zusje. `Den vierden juny 1866 zijn de eersten stenen gelegd door Abraham Ferf, Hector Jacob Ferf en Ina Petronella Ferf'. Het pand staat in het centrum van Burgum, aan de westzijde van de noord-zuid lopende Lageweg. Aan de voorzijde scheidt een eenvoudig giet- en smeedijzeren HEK op natuurstenen basis het erf van de straat. In de voorgevel is de centrale voordeur vervangen door een dubbel venster. Tegen de noordelijke zijgevel is in 1966 een portiek aangebouwd, waarin de toegang tot het huidige kantoor en het huis zijn geplaatst.
Een eenvoudig koetshuis in de tuin is van minder groot belang.
Omschrijving
Een pand van twee bouwlagen op rechthoekige plattegrond, met grijs en beige geschilderde gevels op een donker gepleisterde plint, onder een afgeknot schilddak gedekt met zwarte Hollandse pannen.
De vijf traveeën brede gepleisterde voorgevel heeft hoeklisenen en een fries met tandlijst onder kroonlijst. De middelste travee wordt geflankeerd door pilasters; korfboog fries onder de kroonlijst. De H-vensters met doorlopende onderdorpel op de eerste bouwlaag en de zesruits verdiepingsvensters zijn gevat in een geprofileerde korfboogvormige lijst met rijk gedecoreerde kuif. In de middelste travee boven het vernieuwde venster nog het originele bovenlicht; daarboven een balkon op geprofileerde houten consoles met een rijk gedecoreerde ijzeren balustrade; zesruits balkondeuren, afgewerkt als de overige vensters.
Waardevolle INTERIEURONDERDELEN zijn onder andere een stucplafond en een stookplaats met marmeren schoorsteenmantel en sierlijstjes in de achterkamer. Het plafond heeft een rijk geornamenteerd rozet met florale motieven en engelfiguren.
Twee gecanneleerde HEKPIJLERS met dennenappels en een eenvoudig giet- en smeedijzeren hek vormen de erfafscheiding. Een gietijzeren lantaarn aan de voorgevel heeft dezelfde dennenappeldecoratie aan de onderzijde.
Waardering
Het woonhuis uit 1866 te Burgum is van algemeen cultuur- en architectuurhistorisch belang:

RESIDENCE in Eclectic style that was built in 1866 on the instructions of Mr. Adrianus Eldering Ferf, the then owner and occupant of Glinstrastate, for his son Mr. Horatius Ferf. Witness to this is the foundation stone, laid by his younger brothers and sister. "On the fourth of June 1866 the first stones were laid by Abraham Ferf, Hector Jacob Ferf and Ina Petronella Ferf". The property stands in the centre of Burgum, on the west side of the north-south running Lageweg. At the front, a simple cast and wrought iron FENCE on a natural stone base separates the grounds from the street. In the front facade the central front door has been replaced by a double window. Against the northern side facade a portico was added in 1966, in which are placed the entrance to the current office and the house.
A simple carriage house in the garden is of lesser importance.
Description
A building of two storeys on rectangular plan, with grey and beige painted facades on a dark rendered plinth, under a truncated hipped roof covered with black Dutch tiles.
The five-bay-wide rendered front facade has corner pilasters and a frieze with dentil moulding under cornice. The middle bay is flanked by pilasters; basket arch frieze under the cornice. The H-windows with continuous window sill on the first storey and the six-pane storey windows are set in a profiled basket arch-shaped moulding with richly decorated hood moulding. In the middle bay above the renewed window is still the original fanlight; above it a balcony on profiled wooden consoles with a richly decorated iron balustrade; six-pane balcony doors, finished as the other windows.
Valuable INTERIOR COMPONENTS include among others a stucco ceiling and a fireplace with marble fireplace mantel and decorative mouldings in the rear room. The ceiling has a richly ornamented rosette with floral motifs and angelic figures.
Two fluted FENCE POSTS with pine cones and a simple cast and wrought iron fence form the grounds demarcation. A cast iron lantern at the front facade has the same pine cone decoration at the bottom.
Valuation
The residence from 1866 in Burgum is of general cultural- and architectural-historical importance:
