Inleiding

- als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling;

- vanwege de situering, verbonden met de historie en de ontwikkeling van het gebied -de Bildtdijken-, dat als bijzonder en beschermenswaardig gebied wordt beschouwd;

- voor het aanzien van de streek;

- vanwege de typologische zeldzaamheid;

- vanwege de in grote mate aanwezige en zeer zeldzame architectonische gaafheid van zowel het exterieur -van dit type woonhuizen in dit gebied- als het interieur;

Introduction

This RESIDENTIAL HOUSE of the dike dwelling type is situated on the northern slope of the 16th-century Oudebildtdijk. The front facade faces south and is set back relative to the street profile. The residential house was probably built shortly after 1850 in a craftsman-traditional building manner. On the map of the Eekhof-Atlas from 1852 the building is not drawn. This residential house is a typical example of the many workers' dwellings/dike dwellings that were built along the dike in the 19th century (according to the Schotanus-Atlas, buildings along the dike have been present since the 17th century). In contrast to the other dike dwellings located along the Oudebildtdijk, this is a rare intact example. Most workers' dwellings along the Oude Bildtdijk have, given their limited dimensions, been renovated and enlarged over time. This dwelling was originally owned by the Water Board "Oud Bildt", but is now private property. The dwelling is used as a holiday home.

Of the interior, only the front room and the hallway have been generally observed, as access to the building was not possible and these rooms are visible from outside.

Description

The residential house has a rectangular floor plan and is one storey high. The hipped roof with two brick chimneys is covered by red, unglazed Dutch tiles, slopes through and slopes down at the rear, where it covers a lower building section. The building is constructed of yellow brickwork. The front facade is symmetrically divided by four openings. From right to left there are two six-pane windows with roller blind, a wooden front door with fanlight and one six-pane window with roller blind. The eastern side facade, which is obscured from view by a small wall and a fence, is -as far as visible from outside- blank. Against the western side facade an extension has been placed at the rear. The rear facade has one round and two rectangular windows. The INTERIOR is in all probability original in its layout. It contains a number of original components, including: in the front room the floor of broad wooden planks, the wooden beam ceiling, the alcove beds, the wooden panelled door and the wooden chimneypiece. The original plank floor and beam ceiling continue along the hallway.

Valuation

The residential house of the dike dwelling type is of particular general cultural-historical and typological significance:

- as a particular expression of a socio-economic development;

- because of its situation, connected with the history and development of the area -the Bildtdijken-, which is considered a particular and worthy-of-protection area;

- for the character of the region;

- because of its typological rarity;

- because of the largely present and very rare architectural integrity of both the exterior -of this type of residential house in this area- and the interior;

- in relation to the structural and visual integrity of the surrounding landscape.
