Inleiding
In 1896 werden aan de Lekdijk peilschaalhuisjes gebouwd, bestemd om bij hoog water de waterstanden te meten zonder last te hebben van golfslag. Dit PEILSCHAALHUISJE is opgetrokken aan de rivierzijde van de dijk. Een identiek exemplaar staat bij Lekdijk oost 12.
Omschrijving
Het tegen de Lekdijk, aan de rivierzijde aangebouwde PEILSCHAALHUISJE bestaat uit een op een rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken schachtvormig bouwwerk, dat uit de dijk steekt. De korte zijde aan de rivier is voorzien van muurankers. Het uit grauwe baksteen opgetrokken huisje is overkapt met een later aangebracht houten schilddak met roeven. Hierin bevindt zich een luik om de meting te verrichten. Het inwendige bevat de peilschaal. Aan de rivierzijde bevindt zich, lager tegen de dijk, de waterinlaat, gemarkeerd door een stenen wandje.
Waardering
Het gebouwtje is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde als vrij zeldzaam voorbeeld van een peilschaalhuisje uit het eind van de 19de eeuw, dat een typisch relict is van de waterbeheersing in Nederland. Het object heeft ensemblewaarde door de ligging aan de Lekdijk in combinatie met de dijkbewakingspalen en magazijnen.

The GAUGE BOARD HOUSE built against the Lekdijk, on the river side, consists of a shaft-shaped structure built on a rectangular plan, which projects from the dike. The short side facing the river is provided with wall anchors. The house built of grey brick is covered with a later added wooden hipped roof with eaves. Within this is a hatch to perform the measurement. The interior contains the gauge board. On the river side, lower against the dike, is the water inlet, marked by a stone wall.
Assessment
The building is of general importance because of its cultural-historical value as a fairly rare example of a gauge board house from the end of the 19th century, which is a typical relic of water management in the Netherlands.
