Inleiding
Het GEMAAL in de polder Noord Zevender bij Cabauw is in 1934 gebouwd op de plaats van een wipwatermolen in opdracht van het waterschap Lopik, Lopikerkapel en Zevenhoven. Het ontwerp, met kenmerken van de nieuwe zakelijkheid, werd geleverd door ingenieursbureau Van Hasselt & De Kooning. In 1943 verving een electromotor de bestaande dieselmotor. Het gemaal ligt aan de Eerste Wetering op enige afstand van de wipwatermolen van Cabauw, die oorspronkelijk deel uitmaakt van een molengang.
Omschrijving
Het midden in de Noord Zevender polder, aan de Eerste Wetering gelegen gemaal telt één bouwlaag op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een steil zadeldak, gedekt met rode verbeterde Hollandse pannen. Tegen de noordgevel is een L-vormige aanbouw gezet onder plat dak. De smalle rechthoekige vensters hebben stalen kozijnen en roedenverdeling. De westgevel is een asymmetrisch opgezette puntgevel met links een lager doorlopend dakvlak. Eronder bevindt zich een houten deelbare deur. Rechts bevinden zich in de gevel twee vensters. De zuidgevel bevat links een deelbare deur. De topgevel is betimmerd met verticale houten delen en voorzien van een smal drieruits venster. De oostelijke langsgevel heeft drie vensters. Rechts is een grote rechthoekige schoorsteen geplaatst, die doorloopt tot nokhoogte. De aanbouw herbergt een toilet en bergruimte en is toegankelijk via een houten deur. Het grootste deel van de aanbouw is de machineruimte, die aan deze zijde toegankelijk is door een stalen toegangsdeur. In de topgevel is een venster gezet dat gelijk is aan die in de zuidgevel. Aan de westzijde bevindt zich voor het gebouw de inlaat met betonnen zijwanden, een bakstenen opbouw en een stalen schuif met hefmechanisme.
Waardering
Het gemaal is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als gaaf voorbeeld van een in oorsprong als dieselgemaal gebouwd waterstaatkundig object uit de jaren '30 van de 20ste eeuw met invloeden van de nieuwe zakelijkheid. Waterstaatkundig is het van belang vanwege de ruimtelijk en functionele relatie met de voormalige molengang, waarvan de tweede molen nog resteert, alsmede vanwege de beeldbepalende ligging in de onverstoorde polder Noord Zevender.

The PUMPING STATION in the Noord Zevender polder near Cabauw was built in 1934 at the site of a see-saw mill, commissioned by the waterboard Lopik, Lopikerkapel and Zevenhoven. Description
The pumping station located in the middle of the Noord Zevender polder, at the Eerste Wetering, has one storey on a rectangular plan under a steep gabled roof, covered with red improved Dutch tiles. Against the north facade an L-shaped extension is built under a flat roof. The narrow rectangular windows have steel frames and glazing bars. The west facade is an asymmetrically arranged pointed gable with on the left a lower continuous roof plane. Below this is a wooden part-glazed door. To the right are two windows in the facade. The south facade contains a part-glazed door on the left. The gable is clad with vertical wooden sections and provided with a narrow three-light window. The eastern long facade has three windows. On the right a large rectangular chimney is placed, which continues to eave height. The extension houses a toilet and storage space and is accessible via a wooden door. The largest part of the extension is the engine room, which is accessible from this side by a steel access door. In the gable a window is set that is identical to that in the south facade. On the west side in front of the building is the inlet with concrete side walls, a brick superstructure and a steel sluice with lifting mechanism.
Assessment
The pumping station is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural-historical value as a well-preserved example of a waterworks object originally built as a diesel pumping station from the 1930s of the 20th century with influences of the new objectivity. From a waterworks perspective it is important because of the spatial and functional relationship with the former mill complex, of which the second mill still remains, as well as because of the visually dominant location in the undisturbed Noord Zevender polder.
