Inleiding

Introduction

The long-house FARM 'Aleida Hoeve' was built in 1895 in an eclectic building style with elements from chalet style. In the right side facade a stone is set into the wall with the text: 'The first stone laid for my uncle C. Schep Hz by Hendrik Schep aged 6 years 22 July 1895'. The stable section has been converted into living space. The farmyard is accessible via an ACCESS GATE dating from the construction period. Several trees from the time of the original layout stand on the farmyard, such as a walnut tree at the back of the farmyard and linden trees in front of the front facade. The farm is situated behind the Lekdijk in unspoilt pasture land of the Polder Willige Langerak.

Description

The long-house farm situated on the west side of the Lekdijk is constructed on a rectangular floor plan and has one storey under a reed-thatched gabled roof with the ridge direction perpendicular to the road. The facades above a black-painted cemented plinth are constructed in machine-made brick with narrow joints. The arched windows with T-sash windows have leaded fanlights. The symmetrically arranged front facade (south-east) is a pointed gable with in the centre a panel door, provided with cast-iron grillwork in which horse heads are set. Above the door is an arched fanlight. On either side two windows with shutters are fitted. The top gable contains a three-light window, consisting of rounded arch-shaped sidelights and a central frame with three-foil termination. The roof edge is provided with sawn-out wind braces with ornamental finials and on the wall beam the text "Aleida = Hoeve". In the right side facade on the left is the foundation stone with below it two cellar windows with shutters. To the right of this the facade contains a number of windows and a panel door with cast-iron grillwork and carved work as a fanlight, as well as a number of stable windows. The symmetrically arranged rear facade is a pointed gable, provided with renewed doors and windows, partly in existing openings. The left side facade contains from left to right a pair of altered windows, an arched stable window with cast-iron tracery and a number of larger windows. The interior has largely retained its original layout. The layout consists of a front room with (former) upstairs room, a passage with polychrome floor tiles, a cheese cellar below the upstairs room and a back room with fireplace. Behind this is the former stable section, where the main entrance is located. In the present kitchen is a 19th-century fireplace with carved work, not in its original position, above which a tableau of blue-and-white tiles is displayed, depicting a pastoral landscape with cattle and farms, with the text: 'To build the land is my delight, my heart and senses are resolved, to dwell with the lowing cattle, just as father Jacob did.' On either side of the fireplace are blue-and-white tile tableaus with cages with birds.

In front of the house stands an access gate from the iron foundry 'de Pletterij' from The Hague, consisting of cast-iron pillars with pineapple motif, to which spear fence work is hung.

Valuation

The farm with access gate is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural historical value as a characteristic example of a long-house farm from the end of the 19th century, built in an eclectic building style with elements from chalet style. The farm is important because of its recognisability, special detailing and ornamentation, both in exterior and interior. The building has ensemble value by virtue of its characteristic location behind the Lekdijk in the unspoilt polder landscape of the Polder Willige Langerak.
