Inleiding
Het in 1934 gebouwde TRANSFORMATORGEBOUW (trafohuisje) is een ontwerp van de eigen tekenkamer van het PUEM. Deze zakelijk-expressionistisch vormgegeven transformatorgebouwen werden gebouwd tussen 1928 en 1941. Een groot aantal is inmiddels afgebroken. Dit exemplaar staat op een erf aan de Julianalaan.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand transformatorgebouw op vierkante plattegrond, bestaat uit één bouwlaag, dat is samengesteld uit drie in elkaar geschoven, kubistisch vormgegeven bouwdelen van verschillende hoogte onder platte daken. De gevels zijn opgetrokken van gele baksteen (klezoorverband). In de oostgevel (Julianalaanzijde) bevindt zich een gevelveld met eenvoudig, geometrisch siermetselwerk. In de zuidwest hoek bevindt zich het hoogste bouwdeel bestemd voor de hoogspanning. De noordhoek en -zijde wordt in beslag genomen door een lager bouwdeel voor de laagspanning. Het laagste bouwdeel, in de zuidoosthoek wordt geaccentueerd door een plat betonnen dak met overstek. Hieronder bevinden zich een stalen toegangsdeur bij het hoogspannings gedeelte (zuidzijde) en een grotere stalen deur bij het laagspannings gedeelte (oostzijde). Voor beide deuren is een gemetselde trede aangebracht.
Waardering
Het trafohuisjes is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als karakteristiek voorbeeld van een gaaf en vrij zeldzaam transformatorgebouw in een zakelijk-expressionistische bouwtrant uit het tweede kwart van de twintigste eeuw.

The TRANSFORMER BUILDING (trafo hut) built in 1934 is a design of the own drawing office of the PUEM. These businesslike-expressionist designed transformer buildings were built between 1928 and 1941. A large number have since been demolished. This specimen stands on a plot on the Julianalaan.
Description
Free-standing transformer building on a square floor plan, consists of one storey, which is composed of three nested, cubistically designed building sections of different heights under flat roofs. The facades are built of yellow brick (Kleyn verband). In the east facade (Julianalaan side) there is a facade panel with simple, geometric ornamental brickwork. In the southwest corner is the highest building section intended for high voltage. The north corner and side is occupied by a lower building section for low voltage. The lowest building section, in the southeast corner is accentuated by a flat concrete roof with overhang. Below these are a steel access door at the high voltage section (south side) and a larger steel door at the low voltage section (east side). In front of both doors a mortared step has been provided.
Valuation
The trafo hut is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural-historical value as a characteristic example of an intact and relatively rare transformer building in a businesslike-expressionist style from the second quarter of the twentieth century.
