Inleiding
Voormalig TRAMSTATION Wieringerwaard, gebouwd omstreeks 1910.

Description
Introduction
Former TRAM STATION Wieringerwaard, built circa 1910. This former station, as well as the nowadays barely recognisable former tram station Van Ewijcksluis, were the largest structures built by the N.V. Tramweg Wieringen-Schagen (WS). This company was established on 27 June 1907 with the aim of implementing the Tramplan Wieringen-Schagen, as had already been published in 1901 by a committee established for that purpose.
The WS entered into an operating agreement with the Hollandsche Spoorweg Maatschappij. For the track section Schagen-Barsingerhorn - which had already been part of the tram line from Schagen to Hoorn since 1898 - shared use was obtained from the Stoomtram Maatschappij West-Friesland. At Barsingerhorn the tram line of the WS branched off and proceeded on its own route in the direction of Wieringerwaard and the terminus Van Ewijcksluis, from where a connecting ferry service to the island of Wieringen was maintained. On 1 March 1912 the tram line was opened. In 1936 it was closed.
The former tram station is located approximately 100 m south of the Zuid Zijperweg, free-standing in the landscape. After the closure of the tram line, the rails and platform were demolished. The level of the tram track dyke can only now be inferred from the height of the ground directly around the station.
Description
Former tram station, constructed in white-rendered brick on a composite ground plan under gabled roofs. The building is characterised by decorations with various types of brick above the windows and horizontal unrendered lines running across the facades. The building is two storeys high. The central section with three window bays has a gabled roof covered with grey Tuiles du Nord and corrugated sheets, and is provided with overhanging eaves. The southern side wing with two window bays steps back slightly in relation to the central section. The ridge direction of the gabled roof, covered with red Tuiles du Nord (western roof slope) and red interlocking tiles (eastern roof slope), with overhang, stands perpendicular to the ridge direction of the central section. Originally the three gable tops were provided with a broker's mark. The northern single-storey extension, also with a slightly set-back building line, has one window bay. The flat roof also serves as a roof terrace and has a wooden balustrade. The windows and entrances originally all contained a fanlight with six-, eight-, nine- or twelve-pane divisions of coloured glass. At the height of the intermediate mullions, the facades are articulated with horizontal bands of dark glazed brick. The same type of brick has also been used to accentuate the curved sections above the windows and entrances. The windows and entrances are furthermore provided with arch spandrels decorated with multicoloured, diamond-shaped tiles.
The eastern facade wall (platform side) contains, among other things, an entrance flanked by two windows, two three-part windows and five T-shaped sash windows. In the frame of the three-part window on the ground floor a relief is carved as decoration. In the central section between the first and second storey a tile tableau with the name of the station Wieringerwaard is displayed.
The western facade wall contains, among other things, the main entrance, two three-part windows and five T-shaped sash windows.
Valuation
The former early 20th-century tram station of Wieringerwaard is of general importance owing to its architectural, cultural-historical and typological value as a rare and largely well-preserved example of a station building belonging to the Tramweg Wieringen-Schagen, in the style of Transitional architecture.
