Inleiding
Het HERENHUIS uit omstreeks 1870 heeft een rijk gedecoreerde lijstgevel in de stijl van het Eclecticisme. Het pand vormt wat hoofdvorm, indeling, bouwstijl en detaillering van de voorgevel betreft sterke verwantschap met het pand Voorstraat 47. Mogelijkerwijs is Voorstraat 56 ontworpen door dezelfde architect, J.G. van Parijs. In 1927 is aan de achterzijde van het pand een serre aangebouwd en tegen de noordgevel een éénlaags aanbouw voor de bijkeuken. De architect Th. Overmeer maakte hiervoor het ontwerp. In de achtergevel verder vernieuwde vensters.
In het interieur zijn op de verdieping de negentiende-eeuwse indeling en enkele interieurelementen bewaard gebleven.
Het pand is onderdeel van de gesloten westwand van de Voorstraat in Noordwijk-Binnen en vormt een beeldbepalend element in het van rijkswege beschermde dorpsgezicht.
Omschrijving
Breed herenhuis van twee bouwlagen op nagenoeg vierkante plattegrond onder een afgeknot schilddak met gesmoorde en enkele rode Hollandse pannen. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in rode baksteen en gedeeltelijk gepleisterd. Aan de symmetrische vijf traveeën brede voorgevel (oost) een middenrisaliet onder puntgevel en gepleisterde hoekpilasters met rechthoekige spaarvelden. Horizontaal wordt de gevel geleed door een gepleisterde plint, cordonlijsten en een hoofdgestel met gelobd fries. De onderdorpels van de vensters vormen een aaneengesloten waterlijst. De geprofileerde kroonlijst volgt de puntgevel van het middenrisaliet en wordt ter hoogte van de hoekpilasters ondersteund door decoratieve consoles met bladwerk.
In de middenrisaliet de zware paneeldeur onder getoogd bovenlicht met siersmeedwerk en daarboven een houten balkon op consoles met voluten en bladwerk. Tussen de houten balusters een siersmeedijzeren hekwerk. De glasdeuren naar het balkon hebben een segmentboogvormig bovenlicht onder een gepleisterde profiellijst. Beganegronds vensters met een getoogd glas-in-lood bovenlicht, op de verdieping getoogde T-vensters. De gepleisterde cordonlijst volgt de contour van de getoogde strekken en heeft reliëfornamenten op de sluitstenen. De strekken boven de verdiepingvensters met witte gepleisterde sierstenen. In de nagenoeg blinde gepleisterde noordgevel rozetankers en gevelankers van de zolderlaag. In de oostgevel van de éénlaags plat afgedekte aanbouw een deur. De indeling van de verdieping is oorspronkelijk met onder meer enkele marmeren schouwen, stucplafonds, schuifluiken en de originele trap.
Waardering
Uit circa 1870 daterend herenhuis van algemeen belang wegens cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als representatief voorbeeld van een laat negentiende-eeuwse notabelenwoning in de stijl van het Eclecticisme, en vanwege de gaafheid in hoofdvorm, materiaalgebruik en detaillering, in het bijzonder van de voorgevel en enkele interieuronderdelen.
Het pand is in hoge mate van stedenbouwkundig belang vanwege de beeldbepalende situering in de westelijke gesloten gevelwand van de Voorstraat in Noordwijk-Binnen.

The TOWNHOUSE from around 1870 has a richly decorated cornice-topped facade in the style of Eclecticism. In terms of main form, layout, building style and detailing of the front facade, the building shows strong affinity with the building at Voorstraat 47. It is possible that Voorstraat 56 was designed by the same architect, J.G. van Parijs. In 1927 a conservatory was built on the rear side of the building and a one-storey extension for the scullery was added against the north facade. The architect Th. Overmeer designed this. Description
Broad townhouse of two storeys on an approximately square ground plan under a hipped roof with pantiles and some red Dutch tiles. The facades are built of red brick and partly plastered. The symmetrical five-bay wide front facade (east) has a central risalit under a pointed gable and plastered corner pilasters with rectangular spandrels. Horizontally the facade is articulated by a plastered plinth, cordon lines and a main entablature with lobed frieze. The window sills form a continuous drip moulding. The profiled cornice follows the pointed gable of the central risalit and is supported at the height of the corner pilasters by decorative consoles with foliage.
In the central risalit a heavy panelled door under an arched fanlight with ornamental ironwork and above it a wooden balcony on consoles with volutes and foliage. Between the wooden balusters ornamental wrought-iron railings. The glazed doors to the balcony have a segmental-arch fanlight under a plastered profile line. Ground-floor windows with an arched stained-glass fanlight, on the first floor arched T-windows. The plastered cordon line follows the contour of the arched stretches and has relief ornaments on the keystones. The stretches above the first-floor windows with white plastered ornamental stones. In the nearly blind plastered north facade rose anchors and wall anchors of the attic storey. In the east facade of the one-storey flat-roofed extension a door. The layout of the first floor is original with, among other things, some marble fireplaces, stucco ceilings, sash shutters and the original staircase.

A townhouse dating from around 1870 of general importance for its cultural and architectural-historical value as a representative example of a late nineteenth-century notable's residence in the style of Eclecticism, and for its integrity in main form, material use and detailing, particularly of the front facade and some interior components.
