Inleiding
In 1853 werd beneden de Lekdijk (binnendijks) twee gekoppelde DIJKWACHTERSWONINGEN met bijgehorend DIJKMAGAZIJN gebouwd. Opdrachtgever was het Hoogheemraadschap van de Lekdijk Bovendams. De woningen met magazijn liggen ten zuidoosten van het zogenaamde Dijkhuis, dat reeds rijksmonument is (22702). Tegenwoordig is het pand in gebruik als één woonhuis. In 1979 en 1981 is het dak gerestaureerd.
Omschrijving
Een met de nokrichting evenwijdig aan de weg gelegen DIJKWACHTERSWONING met MAGAZIJN heeft een samengestelde plattegrond. Het pand telt één bouwlaag onder een met gesmoorde Hollandse pannen gedekt samengesteld zadeldak met overstekende dakschilden. De gevels zijn in grauwe baksteen opgetrokken (staand verband), waarin voornamelijk vensters met zesruits schuiframen met strekken en getoogde stalen zesruitsvensters zijn gezet onder segmentbogen. In de gevels van het woongedeelte bevinden zich vier ronde ventilatiegaten, waarvan drie dicht zijn gezet met gietijzeren roosters. Het magazijn is ondergebracht in een bouwvolume op rechthoekig plattegrond dat haaks op de weg staat. De oorspronkelijke woningen bevonden zich in een bouwvolume op L-vormige plattegrond, dat met de rechter zijgevel van het magazijn is verbonden. Het L-vormige bouwvolume ligt iets meer naar de weg toe. De voorgevel (westen) van het magazijn heeft op de middenas een rondboogvormige dubbele opgeklampte deur. Description
A DIKE KEEPER'S HOUSE with MAGAZINE with its ridge direction parallel to the road has a compound floor plan. The building comprises one storey under a compound gabled roof covered with smothered Dutch tiles with overhanging roof slopes. The gables are constructed of grey brick (stretcher bond), in which mainly windows with six-light sash windows with frames and arched steel six-light windows are set under segmental arches. In the gables of the residential section are four round ventilation openings, three of which are closed with cast-iron grilles. The magazine is housed in a building volume on a rectangular floor plan that stands at right angles to the road. The original houses were located in a building volume on an L-shaped floor plan, which is connected to the right side gable of the magazine.
